Ebay sucks tonight...stolen pic.

I'm selling this cassette player on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=5723765795&ssPageName=STRK:MESE:IT

And i find out tonight that another user has taken my picture and revised HIS ad with MY pic....
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5723445090

his auction eventually ended with a winner.
is this fraud? i reported this situation to ebay, see what transpires.

If he is actually using your image (and bandwidth) then just swap it out with a nice little message...

Hey- his sold for 99 cents & yours is up to 12 bucks already.

I wouldn't bother about it.

I've had several auctions copied in the past. People use the EXACT same picture for their own stuff. I even had one guy copy/paste my entire item description!!!!

no bids though

anyway, ebay knows when the pictures were uploaded and which one came first and which one came second.

but i doubt they'll actually do anything about this one.

Hmmmm.
Why did his auction begin 2 days BEFORE yours? Did you have a previous auction with the same pic?

I don't think you can add a pic after the auction starts. At the very least the listing would state what was changed & when?

You can alway bid on his auction, win it, dont pay for it of course and leave him a bad feedback explaining the situation.

If you hosted a photo on the internet somewhere, anyone who knows the address can put the image on their site, or post it in a message board, or whatever. For example, this image is hosted on a Porsche owned web server. They are supplying the bandwidth for anyone who visits this topic to see it.:

This is the address:
www2.porsche.com/bilder/countryselector/logo_foto.gif

The sysadmin at Porsche could look at their server logs and see that the file is being leeched. Usually this isn't a big deal, but if you have a limited monthly bandwith limitation, if a large photo gets posted on a high traffic site, it can be a problem.

If the other auction was leeching your photo, what you could do is replace the file with a different photo with the same name, from something simple as a text block that says "I stole this picture", or if you really want to make a point, farm animal porn.

In this case, the photo addresses are different, so it looks like he saved your picture and uploaded it. If you want to prevent this, put a copyright watermark on your photos.
