and I'll give you $100,000.00 in Nigerian currency for the sale of your car and an extra $15000.00 you wire transfer to a European bank. You see, I'm part of the Nigerian royalty and the rebels have frozen our bank accounts....and.....

Right about now is when y'all are figurin out that paypal isn't a real bank, but has been acting like one wihtout the safeguards, customer protection (fdic), etc...

Me too. Paypal has been flawless till today. Server defaults to Message 3006 if the page loads too slow. I finally got it to work.

jrdavid68 10-11-2004 10:50 PM

bkrygier - looks like it's working now. Don't worry about that transfer from your account to mine - that was just a test.

bkrygier 10-12-2004 02:34 AM

I was able to send money this morning. I wish it would come in as fast as it went out.

paypal isn't a real bank? are you serious?

id10t 10-12-2004 04:56 AM

on-ramp - very serious. They are simply a business supplying a service. They will hold money in limbo, automatically deduct from your account, etc. As a buyer, they are pretty safe but I still refuse to use their service - I'd rather send a MO via western union, or a USPS money order via snail mail. As a seller, they could hold onto your money for a LONG time, remove extra funds from whatever account you have associated with them in case of a payment denial, etc. Check the slashdot article linked above.. flip the comment threshold to 4 or 5 though to weed out the chaff.
