that's very sad....i always had the hope that he would walk again and make another Superman movie. Superman II is one of my favorite movies.

ah, the ironies of life. you play a superhero on screen but in real life you spend the last years confined to a wheelchair.

One moment of very bad luck can surely screw up the rest of your life. scary

It’s depressing to be raised in an age of famous aging baby boomers.. seems like someone’s dying every day lately.

Agreed! He accepted his limitations and became an advocate for it!

Too often when people are struck with such an unfortunate accident, they give up on life.

Christopher Reeve was a super-hero on the screen, but a real hero in life.

Rest in Peace - I am sure he is soaring up above in the skies of heaven now.

Bull****. Sorry, but the real hero is his wife.

How heroic is it to campaign for your own affliction?

Your child gets killed by a lawn dart, and suddenly that's the #1 danger to children everywhere. You develop Parkinson's, and now it's a National emergency.

People are selfish. Just once I'd like to see someone dying of Cancer campaigning for AIDS research.

Don't get me wrong, I think Christopher Reeve's was a great guy. I was also hoping for a cure, and rooting for him. But I don't buy the Hero thing. Hero's help other people, not themselves. If he hadn't been paralyzed, do you think he'd be out campigning for a cure?

I'm sad to hear he passed on. I'm sad for his wife and family.

I think it was BRAINIAC that killed him! J/K

Condolences to the family. And to my neighbor, who suffered a recent spinal cord injury. He has lost a champion for his cause.

selfish?

if you were in that situation, with all that money, fame, connections, wouldn't you do the same thing to try and save your life? I think you would.

we're all selfish, it's the nature of our society.

moral of the story, being, the more famous people that are inflicted with these diseases, the more attention/money/research is being allocated.

You guys really have little or no respect. The man just passed away!

If you don't wish to pay any tribute to him, FINE. If you want to bash him, that's fine too, but don't do it on a post that was started in memory of him, and wait until the ground settles a little before dancing on his grave.

Ah, the internet: where coothe and respect are thrown out the window.

There are far more tragic deaths that happen every day. They don't make the news because no one gives a crap. What's the bigger tragedy?

I am not saying that Reeve's passing is the greatest tragedy - I am saddened whenever I hear tragic news, let's just give the man and his family a little respect!

If a Pelican member posted news that his or her loved one passed away, I doubt anyone here would start bashing the deceist person. When someone famous passes on, the least we can do is give him the same respect.

Hey sorry, I didn't mean to be disrespectful. I just think his wife was truly the Hero here. Supporting her husband and staying with him. I just don't think Reeves was a hero. A posterchild, yes. Hero, no.

If he knew that our troops were about to advance on a certain location, should he inform them of that as well "cause it's the truth?"

I think the man was a hero, just ask his 11 year old son. Selfish? Sorry just don't see that one, not even a little. His work on the stem cell research issue was admirable. Would it help him, well he certainly thought so, but that does not make him selfish. I am with the Z-man on this one, BAD FORM to slam someone on the day they die for "selfish" behavior in trying to raise money, awareness and thinking about a real issue.

What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul!

Not slamming the man at all. I just don't think he deserves to be called a "Hero".

But you guys are right. I shouldn't have even mentioned this. Bad form, and I apologize.

He will definitely be missed. I wish his family all the best and I think he helped to start a trend with finding cures for problems that had no hope of solutions before. I think his work is similiar to what Michael J. Fox did with Parkinsons. Celebrities definitely have a persuasive ability with issues and for that I respect him for working toward a cure/solution.
