Yankee Air Museum burns down

It made the front page of Detroit's/Ann Arbor news papers on Sunday, what a shock.

http://www.mlive.com/news/aanews/index.ssf?/base/news-10/1097505866114441.xml
Although the hangar, built in 1941, was leveled by the fire, a B-25 flight crew managed to pull three vintage planes out in time, as well as a few tools and other items. Planes stored outside the hangar were not damaged........................................... ...................."We lost valuable artifacts, but the heart of the museum was saved," said Dennis Norton, one of the museum's founders and president of the Michigan Aerospace Foundation. "Our first job now will be to re-build. The museum is going forward.".............................................Museu m officials are seeking financial and physical donations. Donors can call the help line at (734) 483-4030, Dennis Norton at (734) 971-2750 or Gayle Roberts at (734) 637-8876.

Note: I have posted pictures of the air shows that I attended at Willow Run/Yankee Air Museum earlier this year. I know there is a lot of interest out there on this topic. Please feel free to share your stories.

After this election I am going to look into helping out.

I was at a fly-in in Napoleon, Ohio Saturday morning and we watched the B-25 land there. When I heard the local news Sunday I was just sure that the B-25 and probably the B-17 were destroyed.

Thankfully, the B-25 crew had just returned from the aforementioned fly-in when the fire broke out and the crew was there to save the airplanes.
