Google Desktop Search?
What do you guys think of Google Desktop Search (it is available in beta)?
I'm trying it now, and looking forward to comparing it with the upcoming Spotlight in Mac OS X Tiger. Anyone know of a similar function available from Microsoft? (I like it so far, although Google Desktop's ability to present the most relevant hits first seems lower that original Google's, probably since there's no links to count.) |
The Google Desktop Search has serious security implications. Use with caution: http://blogs.pcworld.com/staffblog/archives/000264.html

What he said; I think they want you to use it online linked to the web search engine. I don't know what part of that would seem like a good idea. I haven't gotten it but if I ever feel the need I think I's uninstall it before connecting to the web.

Google sucks since they went commercial. The first 4 or 5 pages are for places selling stuff. Thats ok if you trying to buy something but for info on a place person or thing its just BS

Good feedback on the security implications, guys. I'll have to think harder about keeping this software.

Darn but it is handy, though.
Okay, what steps would you recommend to reduce the security and privacy risk? Suppose I: - Only use it when offline - Frequently empty my browser cache and history What else should I do? |
