Gt4

I can't wait....
|
Is the gameplay good? This game may force me to buy a Playstation 2.
|
Oh my GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD!!!!!!!! It's coming out December 4th, right?
|
Wow. Does anyone know of an emulator or something that makes these games work on a PC? I don't really want to buy a TV console game. May have to, though....

still no Porsche or Ferrari
|
but there is RUF and Lamborghini.
|
It is the only reason I purchased my PS2... I am getting a little tired of '24 hours of lemans' for PC (although it is a great game with all kinds of porsches).
|
Gran Turismo is the greatest racing game series of all time.
|
The gameplay never looks as good as those screen shots.. Too bad though, a set or virtual reality glasses and something like that, I'd never leave the house.

Mine is already reserved and the wait is killing me...it's good that it comes out in winter, when all the tracks are closed anyway, and roads are covered w/ salt and crap. |
Hey, whats up with the lack of Porsche content. Does Porsche not allow them to use the name or what, really detracts from the game.

For the best PC game I have played with heavy porsche content, check this one out:
http://www.gamezone.com/gamesell/p18092.htm You can usually find it on ebay around $10 (they seem to crop up every other week). |

Whoa.
I personally prefer the Rally driving games, but that there is some impressive video processing. JP |
hey slacker, give it a shot... when you see the nuances (in steering input, throttle control, even weight transfer) that they make you aware of and force you to master, just to get the licenses needed to go and race wheel to wheel, you'll see it's more than the pretty pictures. And... it has a rally section too...

Electronic Arts has the licensing from Porsche AG to use their cars in video games. EA makes the Need For Speed series, nt Gran Turismo. There is a secret code in Gran Turismo 3 that allows you to unlock a 996 GT3 in the game, but i dont know it offhand |

It'll never look anything like as good as those shots. Remember this plays on your TV with a max res of 640x480, its just not gonna happen. It also won't even touch on realistic, cos then it would alienate most of the buyers.
This is the one to watch: http://www.gtr-game.com |

first: replays are amazing, but yes, they are just replays
second: people get the game BECAUSE it's realistic third: can you tell on a pc game whether the car is 2 wheel drive vs 4 wheel WITHOUT knowing what car you're in? In GT, they have 2 versions of a skyline (for example) and while in cockpit you can't tell which one it is but when you drive you *feel* whether it's 4 wd or 2 wd. Can you tell this difference on your pc game? |
Did anyone else notice they finally added the McClaren F1? That is one car they have needed since the beginning.

hmmm, haven't played it yet, but isn't it just a different "set of clothes" to dress up the same game engine? Isn't this just a way to add tracks and change the *look* of a car but not its behavior?
|
My room-mate swears by GT3. The graphics are really as good as advertised. He also swears that he can "feel" the handling difference between FWD/RWD/AWD cars. Without the seat of the pants, it seems like that ought to be darn near impossible, but (shrug) whatever. Either way, GT3 is fantastic. If there existed a PC version of GT4, I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

well, no other developer that I am aware of (or that has made the news) has travelled around the world to not only record the sounds of the cars, but drive them and in some cases even crash them. They photograph each car individually from many angles, and design each track to the last detail. If you drive the "Monaco" course, I can even show you my hotel window.

IMHO, GT3, while an excellent racing video game, still isn't the best. If it were realistic, it would be way to difficult for people to master and advance and the game wouldn't sell.
Case in point: in the license section, there's a wet skid-pad excerise with a Vette. Now, I've done dry skidpad runs in my Porsche, and all you have to do is lift slightly and the back end will start to come around. In GT3, I can lift, hit the brakes, yank up the handbrake, and the car will still just go around and around. NOT very realistic. I have found in the racing section that adjusting the traction control to interfere less does make for a more realistic handling attitude for the car. I bought a PS2 back in Janauary so I can finally play GT3, and eventually get and play GT4. I do have the Need For Speed Hot Pursuit 2 game for PS2, and that game is much more 'arcade-like' and less 'simulator-like.' IMHO, the best driving game I have ever played is the Need For Speed Porshce Unleashed game for the PC. The 'Factory Driver' section is awesome and really gets into the dynamics of how to drive. (Ex: doing a 360, driving a C4 in the snow..etc). It doesn't hurt that NFS:Porsche Unleashed has only P-cars in it! :) - Z-man. |
