I guess they wanted it more than anyone else...and were not going to give anybody an inch in their quest...8 in a row is stunning.

1986 was a horrible year for me. I was living in NJ at the time and those games typically lasted till after midnight. Games 6 and 7 were particularly devastating.

Also that year, Greg Norman performed the "Saturday Slam" where he had the lead in all four majors on Saturday, but only was able to close the deal at the British Open. Jack Nicklaus tracked him down at Augusta, Bob Tway chipped in at the PGA and I think Ray Floyd beat him at Shinnecock Hills in the US open. Pretty lousy year if you're a Greg Norman fan which I was.

Well, they did give the Yanks a 3 game head start...
