When Does...
A Democrat Switch to being a Republican?
My father was a life long, New Deal, Democrat. He switched parties in 1968 (age 40) and has voted Republican ever since. Anyone else switch? |
I converted the news director where I work from the dark side. He went to school in Minneapolis of all places... gave money to save the whales and all of that crap. He doesn't read Drudge or listen to Rush yet, but he's getting there.
I think it's easier to convert a leftie, becuase all they have is hate and beliefs based on nothing but feelings... Confront them with facts, and they flip out. They go into tin-foil hat mode and won't stay on subject. The problem is that the hard-core ones that know they're wrong can't admit it... They're just too afraid of us giving them the "see, i told you so" in their face crap. I think deep down they all know Kerry's not the right man for the job. They've just been sucked in so far that their shame doesn't allow them to admit it. I suspect, though, that when they go in to vote they'll do the right thing. When nobody's watching and they have nobody to argue, I think they'll do the right thing. Democrats' entire way of life is based on keeping up appearances. Look at how many costumes Kerry's taken on lately... A real man who'se secure with his masculinity doesn't have to go around claiming to be "a real guy". Because he's doing so it suggests there's some question about it, which there is. |
My first presedential election I voted for Jimmy Carter. I've been moving right ever since. There are many, many great Democrats who genuinely serve this country well. Same as there are many, many great Republicans. Seems the Dems have given too much power to the far left at the expense of their power which they held for so many years.

Very true, Craig... there are some good democrats left. Zell Miller and Joe Lieberman come to mind right away.
"Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe, in order to assure the survival and the success of liberty." - John F. Kennedy |
All it takes for a Demo to go Repub is money. If they get into that higher tax bracket they will make the swicth never looking back.

I became a political conservative right after I gave up Camaros and gold chains.

I'm a Not a democrat and I am not a republican. I disagree with the extremeties of both strategies. When the time comes for primaries I register as what ever party I need to be to vote in that primary and then I reregister with no party affiliation.
My Wife's father was a republican until Nixon - he was a democrat and a socialist from then until his death. He was an extremely intelligent and very dedicated civil servant for most of his life. I was a republican when I started voting but I have never voted for a republican for president. I do believe that both parties have their place and I do prefer to have both active in my local politics because as long as they both are active - more moderate plans are lead. It's when one side gets ahead when things go awry - like they are now. Now that I am older I am more comfortable being more liberal (but not "liberal") than my family who are in Florida mostly and mostly conservative republicans. I make more money now than I ever did as a Conservative. I look forward to the day when a third party candidate is more viable. The only thing that will make that a reality though is for people to believe they can make a difference and to VOTE for the third party because they believe they can win - eventually. As it stands now - Matt and Trey have it nailed. |

Money...meaning lot of assets would be a stronger incentive to be Conservative than a high income but few assets.....
Also having lots of assets usually means having a higher income... An analogy ....2 MD's both making 600K a year.. One has a net worth of 7M and the other 1M......who is a better money manager...and which one is richer...both make the same amount of income... Looking at both of them drive down the road you'd probably think the MD with the 1M in assets is richer...he dirives a new GT3.... |

I'm suprised, acutally appalled, that their are any Democrats on this forum, being a porsche forum. A bit two faced if you ask me.
Shouldn't these Democrates sell these toys in order to give the money to the government, who could then turn around and pass it out to the working /poor class! After all aren't they owed this. Never mind the fact you acually worked you tail off to have such nice things in life. As a true Democrat/socialist you should be glad to give the money to the government. Sell your home and downsize to the other side of the tracks while your in a giving mode. Don't forget Government medical care out your expense as well. |
No NO NO ....a true Democrat wants you to downsize , after all he knows better than you do....and he should be granted those perks for knowing better...after all somebody has to lead you to the promised land...and they knoow the way...

That makes sense, Billy... I know as a gun-toting right-winger I should be driving a chevy... but... no, not gonna happen. Besides, aren't all US car making employees union?

Bush was in town this morning. It looked like half of the massive crowd were holding signs reading, "Michigan Democrats for Bush". There were a handful of Kerry supporters outside who taunted the Bush supporters as they left the rally. 2 hysterical fat women with Kerry signs were dragged away by police and arrested. :)
