Lendaddy in print, my first interview

Just got off the phone with The Grand Rapids Press. They wanted to interview me for a column they're doing on our website and our free Monday night showing of Stolen Honor and FahrenHYPE 9/11. The paper has endorsed Bush, but the guy that interviewed me is a HUGE liberal writer. Looks like I'll have my first opportunity to be misquoted by the liberal press:) He was less than excited to speak with me so I wonder if the editors made him do it??? Anyway it should be out Saturday (his column is usually front page) and could be interesting. We are hoping for 1,000 attendies, wish me luck or curse me as the case may be:)

Well, I'm not going to pretend that we agree, and wish you well in your efforts. But I am happy for you personally. You've certainly been doing your own thinking, and you've certainly been fair with me. I appreciate that. Also, I'm happy for your joy with the hotrod SC. Live long and prosper.

Remember: You are always on record, there is no "off the record".

Exactly, but it was only a few minute interview and I don't recall eating my foot:) We'll see, and thnks for the well wishes. I am really not into public speaking, I tend to get nervous. I forced myself to take debate in highschool to cure it, and ended up teaching the class my senior year. I still got VERY nervous even after 4 years, it really sucks. I so envy people who are comfortable in front of crowds. Oh well.

I was a fairly classic nerd in high school, albeit an athletic one. Debate, science fair, star trek, etc. And I liked being alone and was most definitely NOT comfortable with public speaking. Then I got a job in retail. For years I greeted people, etc. That helped. Then I got thrust into a position where public speaking was required. In a subject area of considerable controversy. Well, over the years I got quite comfortable with public speaking. I dare say I'm good at it (I'm hoping for Island's vote when I run for office). I've comfortably addressed groups up to 250 people. I especially have fun with the hecklers. Each time, I hope there will be a heckler/loudmouth conservative. They're fun.

I have been interviewed pleny of times.

#1 You are always taken out of context and used in sound bytes to make the piece entertaining. 9/10 time your not happy with the end piece.

#2. The editor already has a set agenda and knows what the piece will look like. They just need to selectively pick subjects to fit the slots of their piece. You are stereotyped into a role.

#3. You don't tell people about FIGHT CLUB!

#4. See rule #3

In my interview the editor was a friend of friends, and the reporter did a very positive piece. I was embarssed that it read like a big advertisement. I still have six copies of it.:D

lol, I actually was on our NBC affiliate back in 2000 after a Bush rally. The reporter was also a friend and wouldn't let me say no. Anyway, it was bad but she had them edit it to make me look better than I was. I was so nervous I couldn't think:) The people who were with me said it was good and I am just too hard on myself. Anyway the copy is in my desk, never to see the light of day again:)
