Liberal professor attacks conservative student

Another story of a liberal college instructor attemping to limit freedom of speech....when it is not liberal speech....

Colo. Teacher Sorry for Kicking Student

Sat Oct 30, 4:49 PM ET

DURANGO, Colo. - A part-time college instructor has apologized for kicking a student because he was wearing a Republican shirt.

Fort Lewis College student Mark O'Donnell said he was showing people his College Republicans sweat shirt, which said "Work for us now ... or work for us later," when Maria Spero kicked him in the leg at an off-campus restaurant.

Spero then said "she should have kicked me harder and higher," said O'Donnell. "To physically take that out on someone because you disagree with them, that is completely wrong."

Spero, a visiting instructor of modern languages, apologized to O'Donnell in a letter dated Oct. 29.

"I acted entirely inappropriately by kicking you, giving vent to a thoughtless knee-jerk political reaction that should never have happened," she wrote. "Before the incident, I did not know you and that you are a Fort Lewis student."

The college also formally apologized, said David Eppich, assistant to the school's president.

O'Donnell said the apology wasn't enough and he plans to file a complaint with the college.

The only phone number listed in Durango for the surname Spero was constantly busy Saturday.

Durango police did not immediately return a call seeking comment.

It's great to see such tolerance from a member of university staff.

Do you think behavior like this will become the norm in this country from here on?

mikester 10-31-2004 12:10 PM

Divided we fall. Just what "they" want.

ronin 10-31-2004 12:16 PM

which leads to that timeless and all-important question: just who the hell are they?

Ummm why wasn't she arrested?? Certainly we aren't going to allow random assaults to go unpunished no matter what lame-azz excuse they come up with?

nostatic 10-31-2004 02:00 PM

she was probably a freeway flyer. Lots of them are very bitter losers. One of them at my old school faked a car vandalism incident just to get attention.

Also note that this did NOT happen on campus. So in effect, it is an (likely very minor) assult case. The fact that one was a student and the other a part-timer isn't really an indictment of the entire US higher education system...

Translation: "I'm sorry I got caught; had I know you could ID me and that it would reflect back on my job here, I would have worn a disguise. Next time I go on a drive-by kicking I'll do it in the next town."

I think it already is. Liberals seem to think it is ok to hit, kick, or spit on anyone who does not share their views. Put a GW sticker on your car and park on a college campus....see how fast it gets keyed.

Fint, you just have to be out of your mind. Have you ever been to a major university campus in your life? And I don't mean oral roberts.

Hmmm..."on a college campus"? Is that all campuses, or a select few?

I can't imagine the threat to GW stickers on campuses like maybe BYU, TCU, BC, or even USC for example.

Now Santa Monica City College, well...I can see a problem there.

ronin 10-31-2004 10:45 PM

or San Fran State...

I think Bob Jones U issues GW car stickers as Bible book markers.:)
