Car Magazine Collectors
Any of you guys collect car magazines. I have about 20-30 magazines (Automobile/Road & Track/Car & Driver) from mostly 1999 to 2001 that I don't want to throw away. I have been a packrat for a long time and I really just want to get rid of these but I would hope they would go to someone who could use them. If you are interested, let me know here.

Drives my wife crazy. I've been collecting various magaizines, such as R&T, C&D, Car, AutoWeek, Automobile (since issue #1!) and various others. I started in 1970 and have built up quite the collection. Seeing that it was getting out of hand, I have stopped all magazines except AutoWeek. Don't know what I'll ever do with them.

Zeke,
If you want I can get them from Chris next week and drop off one night after work. Would like to see the progress on your S. Michael

I only keep a few magazines of the 10 or so I get: The UK Porsche rags, Excellence if I like a certain story, and my UK classic car mags. Everything else I bring to work - we have a tradition of leaving old magazines in the break area for people to read. Mine are the most popular and disappear within hours, while People, Cosmo, and Shape linger for weeks.
I may have to stop, though - there are complaints that one guy is swiping almost all of mine before anyone else has a chance. I've taken to bringing them in when I know he's not around, but he's countered by having a buddy snag all the best titles for him (Car, EVO, and Octane appear to be his favorites). Bit of friction when the other guys see him lugging them to his car, and some people have asked that I give certain titles to them first. Now I may just dump them at the barber shop when I go... Emanuel

I had 100's at one time. Decided to weed out a few good ones a year or 2 ago, and donated the rest to the school library. Now, I occasionally purchase old Porsche-related magazines from the 60s and 70s - great reading material.

I've got tons of R&T, sports car illustrated (became car & driver), car & driver, sports car graphic, Porsche Panoramas, etc. from the early 50s thru the 80s...
Anyone know where I can find out what they are worth? Best part of reading them is the ads. $2000 for a 550a in 1971?!?!

Magazines are a quirky thing...these days I only keep EXCELLENCE and PANO as they arrive in my mailbox. The others get recyled at the barbershop...current issues on my desk, month old ones left at the barbershop when I go for haircuts. At many car events here, the guy with a books & publications booth has piles of old car magazines...offered at a buck each. Is there a veteran's hospital near you? A similar place where guys are "held captive" with limited reading material? Recycling may be a good deed.

I've been keeping a lookout for a good kid to give my 100's of magazines to, mostly R&T. When I was about 15 a friend of the family realized what a car nut I was, and gave me his collection of magazines... almost all R & T, with some issues as far back as 1965. I'd like to find a right-minded kid and pass them along, but I'd first have to go through them, keeping the really cool old ones, the ones with particularly good articles or the ones with Peter Egan road trips.
I'm gonna keep all my Classic Car, Practical Classics and Excellence magazines though. When I die at 103, some kid will end up with 80 year old issues of those.

The other option is to nicely cut out ads, and put them on ebay. We are selling my Grandma's house, and there must be a 1000 National Geographcis, those were the some of the first things purchased, as the person cuts the ads and puts them on ebay.

I have about 150 VW & Porsche, European Car, Excellence, Panos and Porscheforus magazines dating back to the late 70's. Funny thing is the few that have killer articles are proving to be ellusive.
I've often thought of indexing their contens for easy access.
