Oh Please.

MichiganMat 11-01-2004 08:07 AM

Theres a nice collection of these on dailyKos.com this morning. From Wisconsin to West Virginia, voters are being manipulated.

MichiganMat 11-01-2004 08:10 AM

From dailyKos:

In a letter, Berkeley County clerk John Smalls cites calls from a cell phone were made to Eastern Panhandle democrats telling them that they were not registered to vote. The letter also said the calls informed democrats in some cases they wouldn`t be able to vote on Election Day [...]

It`s considered an improper act because when upset citizens called the voter registration office to make sure they were registered to vote, indeed they were. So, who made these misleading calls? The Berkeley County Clerk`s Office traced the number voters gave as the source back to the Eastern Panhandle Republican Headquarters.

And a few more notices:

It is a shame, it's a shame that this has become a normal and accepted part of the election process in this countryand niether side reserves the right to cast the first stone.

Absolutely. I couldn't agree more. If someone's stupid enough to believe that crap - ploy, plot, conspiracy or otherwise, they shouldn't be voting in the first place.

Lucky for Kerry, he hasn't adopted any Bangladeshi babies...

The sad thing about all this (aside from Kach's fundamental statement about people fighting and dying for the right to vote) is that protestations about tricks, disenfranchisement and voting fraud have come up so early and in such a widespread way that the losing 46-49.9% will never accept the legitimacy of the "winner." And that means four more years (at least) of vicious political division...

Superman 11-01-2004 10:29 AM

What about registered voters with Alzheimers' Disease? What standard of competency applies to the right to vote? What standard of competency should....if any? what about voters who are so "out of it" that a social worker of some kind must assist in filling out the ballot?

tabs 11-01-2004 10:38 AM

This Political division will continue until the underlying causes are resolved...It took roughly 70 years for the issue of States Rights to come to a head and be resolved...

For 200 years the Election Process has been flawed..everybody has known it....yet nobody complained until Al Gores campaign in 2000 threw the issue into the courts....NOw with a close election the likely hood of a repeat of 2000 is very likely...The courts will decide again....instead of the people with it's flawed election process and all...Does this wake U up to the reality of the situation that American democracy has been twarted...and now a group of 9 men will decide the outcome...and no matter who wins 50% of the people will be upset...So U boyz tell me what the prognosis is for the Repblic...

Superman 11-01-2004 11:31 AM

You're probably right about Ali, tabs. So I'll just point out that the Supreme Court is not nine men. Nitpicky, I know.

Umm...eight if you mean the Supreme Court (two women, actually). Rehnquist is getting his throat radiated and won't be playing anytime soon.

Blow number one to the Republicans.
