Poll challengers -- is this what its come to?
Ohio will have approximately 3,500 Republican 'challengers' at polling places today, targeting 'newly registered Democrats.'
Yesterday's ruling against this plan was reversed on appeal by a couple of Republican-appointed judges. This is reminiscent of the uniformed 'guards' placed outside polling places in Orange County, CA by Republicans several years ago. It was hoped that Hispanic voters, especially, would be intimidated. But it didn't work. And it was ruled illegal. So, I'm sure many conservatives here think the Ohio decision is a great thing. But let me ask -- if the shoe was on the other foot, would you accept the idea of Democrat 'poll challengers' standing outside your polling place? Truly? |
Well, considering that you people have 10,000 lawyers galivanting across the countryside, trying to get as many illegals to vote as possible, yeah, i think it's fair.
When you have democrats registering themselves 35+ times When dead democrats are alllowed to vote when illegal immigrants are allowed to vote Yeah, it's fair. We can't let you people get away with everything. |

When dead democrats are alllowed to vote when illegal immigrants are allowed to vote So funny, I hear you guys saying this all the time, but I never see proof of this actually happening. |
Bottom line is that it's sad for all involved.
My voting experience was very uneventful this morning. Just the way I like it. |

There was a big scandal earlier this year on 'dual voting' with New Jersey and New York 'snowbirds' voting in both their home state and Florida. But the majority were Republicans, so, needless to say, the right-wing media never picked it up. |

Seriously, the drive for loose voter registration, driven (pun intended--motorvoter) by the Dem's is VERY telling. I would much rather go back to those low voter tun-out days, than have these close elections decided by Judges & Lawyers assessing the Mary Poppins family, and their right to vote . . . 5 times. oh, and really; " targeting 'newly registered Democrats" !? . .. is that what's happening? |

it is happening, and you are an idiot. |
Close Island. These "newly registered" democrats are by & large so feeble minded that all you have to do is tell them that Democrats vote tomorrow. Works like a champ. Watch, tomorrow we'll see Pinkie, Weenie, Superman & the rest crying about this happening to them.

It should be standard practice for all elections. Reps from both parties should be at every polling place making sure no shenanigans are going on. Just got back from the polls and here in St. Louis everything was on the up and up. ID was checked at each stage of the process. First judge checks ID and hands you a voter number - next judge checks ID again, verifies address, voter roles and signature - third judge checks ID again and hands you a ballot and signs a register showing that you were handed a ballot - you vote then 4th judge takes receipt card off your ballot and you place ballot in box.
Nice ballots - very clean with no hanging chads. |
Mule:D ya let the cat out of the bag there. I was hoping those Dem' -guys wouldn't' hear that they are to vote tomorow. . .. until Thursday.
Bry, good link there. Well, like I said, a sad state. Apparently neccesary (about time, really). .. but sad. Are any of these Rebublican registerees? Mr & Ms Emanem Mr & Ms Snoopdaug Mr & Ms Poppins Mr & Ms Dick Tracy Mr & Ms Harvey Bunney  |
Ohio has had this law on the books for 10 yrs. The dems tried to overrule this law at the last minute. They thankfully failed. The dems and republicans are each allowed to post 1 challenger at every voting location. BOTH have amassed thousands of challengers to do this. Every state has laws in effect on how they LEGALLY register voters.
The challengers will only be there to ensure that people voting are legally voting in their assigned precint and that they are legally registered. The dems are more upset about this because allegedly they have gone around trying to get people who normally do not vote to vote this year. That is fine except that people on both sides have to be registered according to state law. There is no legal advantage to either side this is just a way to ensure that the EXISTING laws are upheld. |

add to that. . . It's not like the Kerry doesn't have a sea of lawyers himself. |
