Drove the new Vette last night
One of my customers rolled up in a new C6. After showing it off, he let me take it out for a spin. Very fast, thump your chest style when you punch it. Handled well but not like my 911...but that is to be expected. Also, a bit large for my tastes. The interior was decent, not super well constructed...but about whats to be expected for a car in this price range.
Id give the engine a 9, styling a 7, interior a 7 and overall value for a $50K sports car, a 9. It would be nice to own one, but for that money I'll get a 993 and save the rest for mods. I guess Im just a Porsche guy at heart. BTW...in addtion to the Vette, my customer has 2 1978 930s which he bought new, a 73S, a 914, a 944, and a couple other sports cars. Pretty cool collection. I had no idea that he was such a car guy. |

Sonic,
I know what you mean about the difference between the vett and the 911. My 2003 vette is definitely a more ballsy car. More powerful engine that will put you back into your seat if you step on it. But I prefer to drive my Carrera. With the Carrera, I feel like I' actually a part of it. I can feel the road, etc. Not that I'm any kind of "track" guy or anything like that. I've never tracked her since I've been driving her. I DO however, enjoy the feel of the twisties much more in the Carrera than in the vette. Randy

Yeah, you feel more connected to the road with the Carrera. In my opinion this is due to the lack of power steering, which makes turns feel more precise like you are actually doing something.... as well as the suspension which is tight, rougher and more realistic... the 915 tranny which can be brutal at times but always feels like you are actually shifting something... the engine sound and drive train vibration and finally, the Carrera sport seats which hug your ass like a high school girlfriend.
The Vette is very nice, but not quite there in that feeling...though the kick your butt torque and speed hitting you in the chest is pretty damn exhilating, though the 911 turbos can do this too.... |

For street driving, I do enjoy the massive low-end torque of the V-8.
400 hp in a 3200 lb car is a recipe for great fun. |

The Corvette is really a great deal out there. The car has virtually supercar figures for less then a Boxster. Good luck getting 400NA horses out of a 993. You would end up spending more on the car and engine then just buying a Vette. I know, I know, Vettes are Vettes and Porsches are Porsches. I just don't see them putting out anything else close to the Vette's performance for the price.
