Anyone use Time Warner Cable for Phone Service
I am getting calls weekly from Tim Warner offering some new all included phone package for like $45 bucks a month.
Anyone know of this service? Michael

Sort of. I use Time/Warner for cable internet. They offer a phone system that runs through the cable modem. It's a rip off. I use Vonage for half the price. It also runs through my cable modem. My phone bill is under $30 a month no matter how much I use it.

I used to be one of their network engineers here in Socal - their cable modem service is fantastic and in HB we went through a lot of growing pains to get the hardware up to snuff with the subscription levels. I'm not sure where things are now...but you have to remember that until recently Cable was a "best effort" service and of course - now they are offering phone service. Ask them if it is "primary line" service or not. If it isn't then they are not required to maintain the uptime that a primary line service is (99.999% uptime). That is what you can expect the service to be.
PErsonally I think their cable product is fantastic and leaving the company was a hard choice to make but ultimately my life is better for it. I've been leary of VoIP products for some time because our internet networks up until recently have really been based on a "best effort" service model. Hardware redundancy and circuit redundancy are just plain expensive as all get out so moving from that best effort model to a high availability model is no small task. Adjust your expectations accordingly.
