I can't read .pdf downloads anymore
What do you think happened? I went to Adobe.com and downloaded the 6.0 after all of a sudden I couldn't read the files and it downloaded hardly anything. Like a couple of shortcuts and something that took all of 10 seconds on DSL.
What can I do to get my Adobe Acrobat back? |
Use system restore to go back to an earlier date.

Use this link for Windows version Adobe Reader 6.0.1, basic version & save to you HD.
Then run the exe. Looks like there's a 6.02 version but you need 6.01 first. Ian |
right click on a file on your system and select open with other.... make sure that the checkmark is checked for the " always open with " , that may do the trick..

*completely* remove all traces of the existing Acrobat... Do it in add/remove, then on the file level, reboot, then download and install the full installer executable. Be sure to have all browsers closed when you do the install - otherwise you may have problems with the plug-in portion of it.
Of course at this point I like to mention that real operating systems have built in PDF support or it can be installed by doing "apt-get install acroread acroread-plugin", and updated with the occasional "apt-get update && apt-get dist-upgrade"... 8) |
Thanks a million guys. I used both Ian's and id10t's suggestions (combined) and I'm back in business. Damn computers. One day it works and the next day it doesn't.
I don't know, I might have removed a shared file, but I'm pretty careful about removing files. Thanks again. Now, can you fix my car? ;) |
id10t is right.
You have to delete old versions of Reader. Otherwise it lays there like a lump. My ver 4 was what IE used by default but I also had ver 6 loaded. I got rid of it 2 days ago . . . computers & cars, there's always something . . . Oh yeah id10t, I got the Mac dig . . . well, you know . . . Ian |
