Fellow 911 in my parking lot, is it weird...

So there's a beautiful SC parked in one of the lots at my mega office complex that I pass everyday but I've never seen the owner, always there before me and either leaves way earlier, or much later then me everyday....

Is it weird to put a note/business card on his windshield just mentioning that I see his car, note that I'm of almost the exact same vintage and seeing if he visits the Pelican boards? Is it creepy or just an all in the family kinda thing?

Would you be weirded out by that?

kach22i 11-18-2004 08:55 AM

Can you just park next to the other car and see what happens?

Could get weird if it's a woman's car and she thinks you are a stauker or something.

adamred 11-18-2004 08:59 AM

His (I did actually seem him from a far distance once but was gone by the time I got there) car is parked far enough from where I normally park that would look really weird....

Great question, Adam,

There is somone that works in the same building I do that drives a red 944. It's there when I get to work in the morning and there whenever I leave.

I know it's being driven, because it's a covered garage and if it's raining outside in the morning, the car is always wet. I've been here for over a year and a half and have yet to see whoever is driving this thing.

Don't get me wrong I really like 944s but that situation I would think twice about leaving a note...this is just weird because other then color we've got the same car....these days in NJ you just don't see very many older 911s on the road, other then his car I see a pre-1989 maybe once a month...

It might be funny if the car looked enough like yours to leave a photo of the car in BFE with a note saying ; took it for a spin, loved the way it drives......hope you don't mind.

Now that would be weird.:)

cantdrv55 11-18-2004 09:13 AM

The only way you'll find out if it's weird is by doing it. You may end up becoming P-car friends, golfing buddies, etc. Or, he may just blow you off if he thinks it's weird but I think that's the worst that can happen. Just do it.

Kach that's hilarious...Alright boys I'm going for it....wish me luck...Uggh I'm such a 5th grade loser....

Don't you mean "1st rate loser"? Just kidding. Good luck!

adamred 11-18-2004 09:33 AM

Totally man....but aren't we all when it comes to these darn cars....

concentric 11-18-2004 09:43 AM

Note:

"Hey man, nice car! Looks like we have the same year/model. It's good to see another Porsche owner in the building. Anyway, I belong to a great P-car BBS at pelicanparts.com and we often do drives and other activities and they have an awesome selection of parts. Drop in sometime and check it out if you feel like it. I'm "adamred" there.

Take care,

Blah Blah"

I fail to see how something like this would be perceived negatively... You're not trying to mount him or something.

Funny that was basically exactly the note I just wrote....I inserted a business card with it...

azasadny 11-18-2004 09:47 AM

I'd leave a note and complement him on his car!

cantdrv55 11-18-2004 09:47 AM

Pretty much. I introduce myself to anybody who drives a 911, old and new. I even go up to women and most are, at first, on their guard. When they realize I mean no harm and that I'm just a P-car geek, they open up because either they themselves or their significant other are P-car geeks too. It's all good.

Tishabet 11-18-2004 10:05 AM

Funny you should mention this....
There's a fellow pelicanite (David McLaughlin) who happens to work near me, and we have spotted each other's car on occasion but never actually met. This AM, I was in line heading into my parking lot and a car sitting across the road beeped its horn. I looked up, and there was this guy in a blue VW (I think) who smiled and waved. I figured he wanted to cut in front of me in line, so I was ready to ignore him when he beeped again and pointed to a PCA sticker in his window. Suddenly the light bulb appeared over my head, and he ended up walking over while I was getting out of my car and we chatted for a few minutes, it was really cool.
One of the things I mentioned to him while we were talking is that I did something similar to what adamred is talking about with a 968 that would occasionally park in my lot, and ended up meeting the owner and chatting with her. I think it's a lot less wierd for one of us with a somewhat old or obscure P-car to approach another in the same boat. I mean, if you're gonna drive an SC I assume you know something about it, whereas I don't make the same assumption about someone driving a brand new P-car. So for me, I have no problem chatting with David McLaughlin since he has a 914/6, or with this random parking lot woman since she has a 968, the most obscure of the 944 lineage cars.

I completely agree Grant! An update...I left to run a lunchtime errand, his was gone when I left but there when I returned....tucked the note under his wiper....will let you know if I get an email or a call....the suspense is killin' me...

Further reinforcing the brother/sisterhood of pcars, got a nice enthusiastic wave from a 964 driver on my way back from my errands...

PS: I am not interested in mounting you.

Yep, add that to the note.:D

id10t 11-18-2004 11:59 AM

I've gotten more than a few notes on the windshield of my 356...

Leave a simple note, suggesting meeting for a drive or something, and leave an email address and phone number.

adamred 11-18-2004 12:03 PM

Damn....I realized that I actually put the note that I was going to send to my secretary about "checking out my ride" after work....oh well another p-car friend lost....

mikes72t 11-18-2004 04:37 PM

I have had this happen to me at work where I drove it in and a guy who is restoring a 1970 911S called me and asked to look at the car so would know how to put his back together.

A little wierd at first until I was sure he just a Pcar geek.

Good luck.

Mike
