Question BMW: 01 1100 RT vs. 02 1150 RT

Are there any major difference between these two BMW Motorcycles besides a large engine: 01 1100 RT vs. 02 1150 RT. The price difference is about $3k for the 02, same mileage on both bikes. The 02 1150 RT is outfitted better, but are there any major differences in design...does not appear to be. TIA.

Hi Wayne,

I lately have been going through the same exercise, but I'm including the Honda ST1100/ST1300 in my consideration. I contacted BMW for a brochure last week, and yesterday a very nice brochure arrived - for apparel. Anyway, you might check out the forums at cycleworld.com. I've posted a few ?'s there and got some very good responses.

The '02 will be a smoother running engine, which is important. Nothing wrong with the 1100 motor, but less vibes means less fatigue on long rides!

Find a good BMW motorcycle website to find out about known problems. I subscribe to Motorcycle Consumer News and as I recall the 2003 version of this bike had a fuel injection problem that made for some very erratic running.

A lot of other changes came with the 1150.

Try posting your question on the R1100S site. I'm sure a lot of the guys there will know a lot more about it than me...
