We're hated because we essentially control most of life directly or indirectly in most of the known world... Do you think that this will change when America sunsets and a new superpower (...if this happens, there might be a disintegration of central power) comes into being? Considering that we've saved the world from at least three murderous fascist regimes and could annhilate the rest of the planet about 1,000 times over, we're pretty god-damn benevolent. How do you know you have saved the world? What three did the US remove? China may be the next superpower if they get their infrastructure sorted. but you may be right, control could be the key... do you think any of that article is right? If not which parts?

I feel bad about my knowledge of US history, I didn't think the US had all that much to do with Prussia. About WWII, it was truely a world war and no one country won or lost it alone nor could it have been done without all participants. The US can't claim they won the war, nor can anyone else in the world claim they could have done it alone. On China: I do believe that the Chinese will be the next world super power especially now when Power is measured by your ecomony, there are so many countries that can blow up the earth that the military is being forced out by the power of the dollar, or yen or whatever. But as China picks up steam and develops its infrastructure, they have the people and the resources to do a lot in Design, and manufacturing (low and high-tech). Consider that they have roughly 1.3 billion people who are just now where the 200 million people of the US were in the early forties. But then in the US the manufacturing boom was brought on by war, right now in China the manufacturing boom is being brought on by worldwide greed. It won't be long and China will be the worlds largest importer and consumer of everything. Actually India is ahead of China on education and higher skill jobs but I think China will outpace India in the coming years. Gas prices are only going to increase as the Chinese machine starts running and cinsuming more and more of these resources. Just my $0.02. Mike

All very true Mike, I was in China 2 months ago... They have 1/4 of the worlds high rise cranes building... the government builds manufacturing plants for people to move into! Its incredible. Coming out of Pu Dong, there is a sea of cranes and new buildings... I would say in the next 20 years they will be the worlds top dog.

The question has fascinated me for the past year. I’d only say for now that there are profound national psychodramas operating beneath the hate which cannot be fully understood by the nominal reasons people give. Hatred, almost by definition, does not lend itself to honest self-examination. An excellent book on the subject by French writer Jean Revel offers this view (I quote from Publishers Weekly mag): "In probing the origins of the notion that America is the source of all evil--imperialistic, greedy and ruthlessly competitive--he (Revel) shows how these charges ultimately stem from weakness and envy on the part of those who make them and are a neurotic effort to find an easy explanation for Europe's own loss of status in the postwar era. As far as America's "unilateralism" is concerned, Revel asserts that the U.S. is forced to act alone because Europe has repeatedly failed to act in the cause of collective security. As far as America's sins of "globalization" are concerned, Revel shows that the developing countries of the world want more, not less access to rich markets and corporate investment."

I’m working on it, 952. It’s a handful. Thanks. A good way to answer would be to look in particular at the places/people which “hate” us, consider the history of our relationship and development of this hatred according to some basic line of time and event, then try to find out what they all had in common.

Yes that is the more scientific method... its very hard to gather such data though! Wouldnt you agree? For the most part longitudinal studies of this kind over years may be so subjective as one influence affecting so many may not have the same inpact, but the outcome be the same, too much interaction effect. Hence why I think a snap shot of the contemporary issues was presented. Its an interesting read though, so many issues seem trivial though.

Sebring77 we are trying to keep this a civil thread, please keep your name calling to yourself. Thanks. People flock to move to many countries from many countries, including those from America to other countries. This migration out of the US was very evident after the Bush re-election. Again, please try and keep it civil. If you feel the question should be different, start another thread on that question...

A quick google found this article... http://www.indybay.org/news/2004/10/1701928.php Actually, our local news said they had 10 times the number of enquires (10,000 in one day) from Americans wanting to move here straight after the Bush re-election. The explaination from these Americans was the Bush re-election. So before you fly off the handle and call something complete BS, you need to understand the situation and if in fact it is BS...
