have you cheated on your spouse?

a poll...for anonymity. And just to avoid any Clintonian nonsense, "cheating" includes anything beyond an innocent peck on the lips...heavy petting, groping, etc counts as cheating imho.

so one cad and a bunch of good guys. Maybe the other baddies don't come out until after dark...

How about elbow-titting and wedgies? Just to not be Clintonian. :)

No...

Anyway, what's this chick like that you're considering?

david914 11-27-2004 01:23 PM

No, unless ogling at the Grid Girls thread counts! :D

widebody911 11-27-2004 02:55 PM

No, but I've cheated on yours...

well that would explain the recent, "gee, have you gotten bigger?" comment :p

I am amazed at the poll results.
If answered honestly in N. Italy it would require a "Yes I am and I am still married to the same person" field. Certainly amongst the people I know.
I do think however, that it is a symptom of something wrong or missing in a relationship.

david914 11-28-2004 03:40 PM

Yeah, I personally don't understand how someone could cheat on their spouse and live with themselves. I've been married to the same girl for over 18 years, and we're still frequently mistaken for newlyweds. I think many people have this idea that marriage is 50-50. What they should realize is that marriage is 100-100. Both people have to be fully committed to each other and the relationship. You just don't hear of that kind of commitment these days because it's become more "acceptable" to give up and try someone else. I heard some statistic not long ago where men who had been married at least twice were asked which wife was the best and the majority of them responded with "their first". Reminds me of a Don Henley song;

"He had a home
The love of a girl
But men get lost sometimes
As years unfurl
One day he crossed some line
And he was too much in this world
But I guess it doesn't matter anymore

In a New York minute
Everything can change
In a New York minute
Things can get pretty strange
In a New York minute
Everything can change
In a New York minute

Lying here in the darkness
I hear the sirens wail
Somebody going to emergency
Somebody going to jail
If you find somebody to love in this world
You better hang on tooth and nail
The wolf is always at the door"

New York Minute
Don Henley, Danny Kortchmar and Jai Winding

Guess I'm in the minority then. I'm glad that there are so many happily married people out there. But funny how the poll doesn't quite jibe with the other thread ;)

I would have voted if there was a statement about cheating on former spouses. I did that, & we parte ways later on, not because of that. Haven't cheated on my current wife & don't intend to.

nostatic 11-28-2004 05:22 PM

Marv, I think the poll is referring to *any* cheating event during *any* marraige.

Where does "Having sex with the wife, but imagining it is someone else" fall on the scale?

ha! if that counted I think we'd be at 100% cheating :D

WOODPIE 11-28-2004 06:07 PM

Yeah, I agree with you, nostatic. In my mind's eye, though, it's cheating, as plain as the sexually contracted wart on my, uh, the nose on my face.

And yet, a vivid imagination can be a vital key to a successful union, yes?

Maybe there seems to be more faithful people here because the ones that cheat and get caught are over on the Yugo/Ford Focus/Toyota Corolla boards once the lawyers get done with them.
:)

Speak for yourself...

widebody911 11-29-2004 06:24 AM

I almost wish I were married! Then I lead the wife to think I was with a mistress; lead the mistress to believe I was home with the wife... Meanwhile I'm out in the garage working on the 911...

white87911 11-29-2004 01:26 PM

What about cheating on your wife, before you were married? You know, while dating, but not engaged. I just was to be a part of the discussion.

Ouch. Got me. I cheated on almost every woman I ever dated before I got married, including my current wife (over 7 years now, no cheating after). Not a nice guy back then. I rationalized it based on not having a committment and because I had been hurt in the past I played the field rather than stick with one or two. It was really way too much work.

I've changed quite a bit since then. I have no desire to check out the grass in the neighbor's yard anymore. Mine's already greener than I deserve. :D I also know that almost ANYONE is capable of giving in to temptation(say, Teri Hatcher or something) and run from any situation that might lead to an "opportunity to fail".

My advice. Don't cheat. It could never be worth it. (IMHO)
