Need to Kill Some Time?

Supposedly, there's a couple having sex somewhere in there? In any case, the resolution of this photo is scary.

I'd imagine that, given the area that image covers, there's a couple having sex in there somewhere. Not that it's a couple I'd wanna see....

Great scalability on the image, tho. Very impressive.

I found this half-invisible man. Weird. I was reading some of the license plates on the cars and counting the spokes on bicycles. Amazing. But what happened to this guys torso?

Since they probably made multiple passes of each area to get better zoom resolution, he was probably there one pass, gone the next.

I liked the theory, Chris, but there are people obviously in motion (on a bicycle, walking out of a building, etc.) that are pretty crystal clear who would've been blurred/distorted beyond recog. if there were multiple passes going on (whether on the v or h axis)...

Woodman, looks like you need to install Quicktime. It's a free download from Apple. It also comes as part of itunes.

This is from their website:

The 2.5 gigapixel image is a composition of images rather than a single image. TNO developed a sophisticated approach to merge the many images - all 600 of them.
...
All 600 photos were taken over a period of 1 hour and 15 minutes. Taking a single photo and moving the camera to a new position took approximately seven seconds. Thanks to the long 'exposure time', some interesting artefacts are visible at the edges of the various photos. They include a parked car that seems to merge into a bus and a walking torso.

Quicktime is trying to do the display, which doesn't work because it's a Flash animation.

If you go to Macromedia.com and install their Flash player, it will take over from Quicktime and it should work. I am viewing the picture in Firefox as well.
