there are a couple tips i pass on when service is less than one might expect.

1. Plant your garden early in the summer, or at least late spring.

2. Clean out your rain gutters prior to the start of the rainy season.

I do tip but its an exception not a rule.

I also hate when they come over and interrupt you to ask if everything is OK when your eating. Is if you should have a roach in hashbrowns or something.

Maybe its me, but when a girl simply walks over pepsi and EXPECTS a dollar. I expect her to be topless or put that buck in her panties.

Recently in NY, somebody got arrested for not tipping. Whether you tip or not should be an option, not the law. Because when you have to pay for a party of 6, you get sh$tty service, takes an hour to get a drink, etc.

I have a company X-mass this Friday and the tips will be including 20% in the bill. It takes 1 hour to get a drink, crap service and we have to order 2-3 drinks at once because they suck. This is one of the best places to dine in Phx.

Commission to a sales person is an entirely different thing. A sales person typically assists you in your choice of product. They present you your options and persuade you a particular way. Ideally to the best product available to them to sell you.

Wouldn't it be great it at least 25% of sales people did this! Think about all the interactions you have had with sales people - how many took time to ascertain your needs, understand your "pain points" and offered up a solution? Even at the corporate level, ask a maintainance guy about the chucklehead who sells him bearings or pumps - he is an order taker not knowing squat diddly, or the pharm rep to calls on doctors - brochure/sample drop offs, how about the software rep who calls on your IT dept - no need to go threre.

Lets face it, most (not all) salespeople are pretty weak. The good ones become peter prinicipaled managers or they start their own companies.

Servers are sales people in a way - at least the good ones are. You can be a good server in a place that has common fare, not even top-end and still be very good, work hard and make some chink.

It is too bad that the majority of servers (and salespeople) are just doing the motion without pickn-dem-up-n-layn'm-down!
