Word.

"best" is relative, isn't it?

greglepore 12-03-2004 06:16 PM

F The FCC- Steve Earle

Now, I'm a little left on social issues, a little right on economic ones, but this song, as crude as it is, reminds all of us that people died for the right to say that.

Z-man 12-03-2004 06:55 PM

Vertigo - U2

Here with Me - Dido (or was that from 2003?)

Nothing but You - Paul Van Dyk (or was that from an earlier year?)

-Z.

Adam 12-03-2004 06:58 PM

Anyone into Paloalto? What about Muse?

Shuie 12-03-2004 07:02 PM

Duality - Slipknot

Im sure I can think of two more

"It's My Life" by No Doubt...

Sonic dB 12-03-2004 08:05 PM

The No Doubt tune is a remake of a Talk Talk tune....which is no surprise because there hasnt been a good song released on the radio airwaves in many years. Todays "music" pretty much sucks.

azasadny 12-03-2004 08:07 PM

Sonic,

How true! The "Talk Talk" version (original) wasn't as good. I normally don't like remakes, but No Doubt really did a great job with that song. I especially like the "crunchy" guitars!

Sonic dB 12-03-2004 08:11 PM

Yeah the No Doubt version is great....really adds a new twist to the original. I like the original version though... very cool in an 80s way.

BTW man... just saw your tag...Im from Southgate, MI. Small world. One of my best friends lives in Wyandotte.

Wow, what a lame and close minded statement.

azasadny 12-03-2004 08:27 PM

Sonic,

My wife and I are originally from Trenton and moved back to Wyandotte to live after I got out of the Navy in '91. Our families are here, so that's why we came back but I hate having to store the car in the winter, I put Helga up a week ago and it's killing me living in the rust belt!!

Sonic dB 12-03-2004 08:28 PM

azasady.....did you go to Trenton High in the 70s - 80s? My dad was a teacher there....

I know what you mean by "rust belt" ... too bad that you dont get to enjoy your 911 more out there.

headstud..... its all a matter of opinion or more. In my case, I am an experienced and schooled musician... I just do not hear the creativity, relationship between innovative melody, harmony and rhythm that used to exist in pop music,,,, these days.

azasadny 12-03-2004 08:39 PM

Sonic,
Yep, graduated in '79. What's your father's name?

Sonic dB 12-03-2004 08:45 PM

Ill PM You...

Yes, you are correct, it is a matter of opinion and in my opinion your initial statement was lame and close minded. By stating that contemporary music "sucks" you are dishonorably praising yourself. I would like to hear your experienced and schooled musical genuis, maybe my perception is skewed and I've been missing out.

In your second statement you mentioned "pop music". I might agree that pop music does kind of suck. But then again, I don't take pop music seriously. It is what it is.

So as not to hijack the thread, here are my picks...

1) Interpol - Evil

(It's been crazy to see the evolution of this band's popularity over the past few years.)

2) Modest Mouse - The Good Times are Killing Me
2a) Modest Mouse - Blame it on the Tetons

(These guys have been around forever, mainstream now, I'm sure they're stoked)

3) Jay Z - My First Song

Ahh, there's more, but you said three. :D

turbo6bar 12-03-2004 09:32 PM

First nomination:
Andain - Beautiful Things (Gabriel & Dresden Unplugged Mix)

CJFusco 12-03-2004 09:43 PM

Modest Mouse - Float On, or maybe The Good Times are Killing Me
Dropkick Murphys - Tessie
Franz Ferdinand - Take me Out

Staylo 12-04-2004 09:24 AM

I don't often find myself listening to music on the radio much anymore, since it's a Clear Channel world but...........

1. Killers - Smile like you mean it
This whole album (Hot Fuss) reminds me of what was cool in the 80's

2. The Stills - Still in love

3. Von Bondies - C'mon C'mon (great driving tune)

Sonic dB 12-04-2004 11:49 AM
