^^^^ what about a place that copies/prints blueprints?

You might try an architectural office as well.

Google 80's Maxell Poster. The Pelican threads on this subject show up on the
first page.

Ditto. And one of mine (the gallery copy) is matted.

And FWIW, I was not looking to violate any copyrights. In fact, I don't know when to be concerned about that or not. So I appreciate the warning - and if anyone can help with the method and/or the law, lemme know!

No affiliation - just stumbled across this:

BTW - super nice office Rusnak. Are you in Pasadena? What kind of work do you do? FWIW I only wish I was cool enough for that office!!!

Any commercial shop will likely refuse to copy it. It is for sure a copyrighted piece. The commercial shop can be fined $200,000 per image that they copy. Unless you find an employee that was not trained, it is unlikely they will do it.

The old rule of thumb, if it was created, it is copyrighted. Our shop would have never scanned it for you. I bet in the bottom corner there is a clear copyright statement right on the poster.

I understand you want a copy and not to sell it. To keep it 100% legal, buy the poster from a legitimate source.

Good thing no one here ever dubbed a tape of their favorites, let alone a Maxell !

The difference is the professional shop making a copy of a copyrighted piece. They are making money off of that service. We had people come in all the time with a Olan Mills portrait and we would refuse. We knew of a company that had a sweet little old grandma type go into a place for a copy of the Olan Mills portrait, and as she walked out with the copy, a lawyer walked in, and handed the company a lawsuit, that they lost. That copy cost them 200 grand. The simple way, call Olan Mills, tell them the truth that the portrait is several years old. They don't have the negatives, so they send a copyright release. We are happy, and the customer is happy.

Copying music or a CD is for friends is almost impossible to go after since there is usually no profit, and it is hard to prove where it was done.

I have no skin in the game here. I am just suggesting any shop that sees the poster will refuse it. Maybe your luck will be different.

I own a copy shop and would have no problem scanning or copying anything.
I would ask if this was for personal use though.

Laws are different in CA though. ;)

There are a number for sale right now at under 200 USD.

Seems fair to me.

I frame and sell these. I have 2 of the Weaver Gallery Porsche Blown Away, 1 Weaver Gallery Man in Chair Blown Away and 1 Maxell Mail-away Poster. Very nicely framed.

I usually just post them for sale on SecondMoonshot.com and on eBay. I do the Weaver Gallery ones and also frame the 2 page ads which is very popular entry point. Value on these are moving nicely up.

Had a set of JBL L100’s. Lots of albums were mixed using the professional version. And yes, turn them up with my Yamaha C6/M4 Time Window set up and Zep, Who, Little Feat, Spooky Tooth all sounded great. Each time we cranked them felt just like the poster

SecondMoonshot 06-01-2025 08:21 AM

Just did this set for a Porsche owner in Marietta GA…these are original posters.

I'll never understand the huge interest in these posters. Who uses Maxell tapes anymore?

I cringe when I see that top flying off knowing that it'll cost $16K at least to replace it.
