Cool car?
I recently saw this car, a 1993+ TVR Chimaera. They look to be only on the british market, although... that thing looks hot! Not a bad price too (around $15,000, or 8,000-10,000 GPB for the cheaper ones). Does anyone know anything about these cars? I am starting to think... hmmm... if I could save up a few bucks, then maybe I could import one? Here is a tech link on the Chimaera: http://www.parkers.co.uk/choosing/specs/derivative.aspx?manu_name=TVR&manufacturer_name=10949&model_id=952&fueltype=&months=&spare1=&spare2=

Here's a link to the Chimaera's sister, the Cerbera: http://www.parkers.co.uk/choosing/specs/derivative.aspx?manu_name=TVR&manufacturer_name=10949&model_id=951&fueltype=&months=&spare1=&spare2=
It looks like the British version of the Dodge Viper in my opinion.

They are super cool cars. Proper sports cars, but not built like Porsches and with some reliability issues. The MD Peter Wheeler is a character. Do an internet search for some of his interviews.

I was recently pondering the same question about the Griffith-another TVR. Rover V8 in a glass bodied sports car. Light and fast and cheap (relatively speaking). TVRs used to be (late 70s/early 80s) somewhat available in the states. A guy down the street from me had a few. I think govt regs have made it difficult at best to get one here now, however. The Griffith is also one you might check out. Zero to 60 in 5.4 seconds. Top speed around 150. As Isabo said-not Porsche quality, but high in performance. Most of the TVR issues are quality control items such as door handles breaking etc. The drivetrain is fairly reliable, common and easy to work on.
I believe Travolta drives a Chimera in that last spy movie he did with Halley Berry. I remember the car, but forget the title. The movie itself was pretty forgettable for that matter. |

Looks like a 911 mated with a Maita while a Z4 watched...

TVR's are kinda neat. My brother in law has two early 70's 2500M's. One is totally stock and driven all summer, the under is undergoing major surgery. We removed the stock Triumph I-6 motor and trans in favor of a Ford 2.3L turbo, T-5 trans and SVT Mustang rear diff. We are working on mating everything up and just recently finished brake/hub adapters to run the SVT hubs and brakes in the rear using narrowed SVT half shafts. We'll be using SVT fron brakes as well. I like the cars but I don't like driving them. They have huge trans tunnels and cramped footwells. Never seen a new one in person but I did like the car in the movie Swordfish.
