She watched a Discovery Channel special on custom bike building and has softened her stance. Her dad had a beautiful Triumph Trident back in the day, and I always had bikes when we were dating and first married. Problem is, when I was young I had a few spills on my bikes. She remembers that. I know I would be a much more cautious rider now than I was then. |
Here is a nice bike that I would like to own.

Am restoring a old BMW that will look like the one John Cramer posted. Here is the current ride:

Yeah! A "Toaster Tank!" Right ON!
|
John,
This one is "mint" and found it in Denver with 65k miles on it. It won "Best in Show" in Denver last year so is in good condition. Hopped on and rode it home 4th of July weekend. 1000 miles and not a hiccup, starts on the first kick and is just a nice bike. The old "toaster tank" models are getting difficult to find and glad I have a couple of them stashed away. Restoring another one like it that I want to put a sidehack on like your picture showed. Keeps me out of the bars at night! Joe A |
I love bikes....I made a promise to my Moms that once I had kids I would get off of them. STILL have my MC license though.
I agree the custom bike is a fad and will fade. The prices will come down as the wannabees flitter onto something else. "I" would find a really neato vintage ride. My last one was an 850 Moto Guzzi Lemans. One of the first factory cafe rides. It was already passe and the model was 15 years old when I owned it back in 88. I rebuilt it to a 920cc, added some shorty BUB pipes and that thing pulled like a frieght train. Used to get sneers from the Ninjas and other clone bikes.....but NO ONE pulled away going up hill. Depending on the other driver's skill I usually was waiting on their sorry butts at the local watering hole for them to show up. THAT's MY vote. PS....the leakier and rattier the better. :p |
I'd have to most likely be divorced before I get anything more powerful than my bicycle. I hate how motorcycle riding gets such a bad rap in L.A. By and far, I've seen less accidents with motorcycles than SUVs, although the ricers splitting lanes at twice the freeway speeds doesn't make for a good visual. Of course, that's what people focus on, unfortunately.
At any rate, I think cycling is actually more dangerous in L.A. than motorcycle riding. But you can't tell my wife that. |

Anybody have a file pic of the "Billy Bike" from Easy Rider?
|
|
Sorry Blue, that's not even close. A real Pan has a kicker, a generator case as opposed to the modern nose cone case, and certainly no disc brakes. This is a modern Evo-motored wannabe with the fake Panhead heads from Panzer. Great for the biker wannabe's that are incapable of dealing with an original Pan. Anyone have a shot of the real one?

Moses - ya gonna break ya neck on one of those things!
They do look cool. You should get Kach22i to ink some ideas, boys got chops. I heard that there is some sort of psychological profile test that you fill out and it spits back a few design options that nail it to your overall character and driving intent. It is supposed to take info from a large database of bike designs and their owners and establish some funky algorythm - kinda like a dating service but for custom bikes. Then again, that sidecar rig would be a favorable cruz'r for you and mama! |

Now we're talking, Blue! I wonder what ever happened to that thing. I heard Captain America got ripped off shortly after the film was finished. I always like Billy's bike better anyway.

Me too...just a great scooter in it's day, would be one today...
|
Here's my current scoot, an '01 Kawasaki...lightweight, 650cc, plenty of grunt, simple, and fun for short rides...

Nice ride Rob. About 2 months ago I just learned about the w650's. Never even knew they were here. Never saw an ad (at least I don't remember seeing one) Now I'm looking around for one too. Any particular things you *don't* like about it?

1) Doesn't piss oil all the time 2) Electrics actually work, how boring 3) People mistake it for a Triumph :D |
