Damn you guys have some weird things happen to you. I rarely remember my dreams and the closest I have come to being paralyzed is one time I was sleeping on my stomach and my arms were under me and both of them went to sleep. Woke up and the only way I could roll over was to rock back and forth. Fell out of bed.

I've had that "waking to a REALLY loud noise" a number of times. Jerks me awake (no paralysis) but just that "what the hell was that?!" feeling...
Some sort of glitch in the auditory nerve I guess? |
The same thing has happended to me. You awake in a panic and you have the feeling somebody is in the room and you can't move anything. After a number of these occurences I learned that the one thing I could do is wiggle my toes. I could then work from my toes to the rest of my body. Once I learned that, the frequency of these attacks went way down. I think the idea of being powerless exacerbates the problem and this technique gave me empowerment over it. Regardless, I hope it doesn't happen to me again, just the thought of it is scary.
