Weber Carbs a Half Mile Away
the house is about 200yds from the road. A pond in the front of the house provides a nice open spot to see the cars coming and going - messing around with my boy by the pond not facing the street. We hear a familar sound, he looks up at me and says "Dad! A Porsche!" and swings around to see Ed Hughes 911 stream by. Ed has outfitted his Targa with Webers. Don't know if they have a huge influenece on the sound but is was more than luck that he ID'd him. Now mind you, there maybe a car going by every 3 to 7 seconds (including motor cycles). The lad is only five, but he may just be the next Radar O'Rielly of PCA!

911's, Ford smallblocks and bigblocks, Chrysler hemis, Harleys, they all have they're own distinctive sound and they're all my favorite. I can tell a 911 or a Mustang from unusual distances just by the sound, I think that's one of the reasons I fell in love with these cars.

There is a Weatherman in Indy that can tell you the year, make and model of a car just by the sound of the horn. I didn't believe it till I saw it, heard it with my own eyes and ears. The guy is on the money over 95% of the time and he even gets weird stuff like 1966 Internationals and so forth.
