G9Girl holds first Home Fashion Party
What do you get when you mix five 9 and 10-year-olds with some cool clothes and purses, the idea of personal "charms" and a bit of G9Girl spirit?
Two and a half hours of non-stop giggling, gasps and great fun! Having a nice neat agenda for the evening, I felt prepared, but that was thrown out the window in the first five minutes as the girls practically attacked the bags with clothes and purses in them. They quickly anounced that they would hold a fashion show. Who was I to question this? Grabbing this and that, they ran into another room, changed and were ready for the camera, prancing out into the Hostesses family room and throwing themselves back into a couch in a flurry of giggles. That out of the way, they gathered together and we discussed what G9Girl meant... that there is genius within every girl, all you need to do is look inside, find it and nurture it. We talked about building a G9Girl Council where they would be the eyes and ears for the website, interviewing friends, teachers, parents on a variety of topics and reporting back on a monthly basis discussing these topics with girls around the country. The response was pretty much like I had just handed you the keys to a new Carrera GT. We talked about the G9Girls themselves, specifically Violet and Felicity, and their charms. What are your charms I asked and hands flew up in the air. Instead, paper and pencils were handed out and they thought of their own 4 charms that describe them. Some drew pictures, some created titles and descriptions. Here are a few (remember, these are 9 and 10 year olds) picture of a pattern: a pattern means different good qualities that make me up, make up girls picture of a heart: I am very helpful with problems Kickball Crazy: Erica is very crazy about sports and loves to play kickball! and so on. What time is it now? Well time for another fashion show of course, and so they went. With that done, I was talking with moms about our mission while they filled out order forms, when 30 minutes later the girls came running downstairs, they had created their own G9Girl theme song, "'cause you really need a theme song." they told me. This went on for the night, the song evolving and incorporating more of the G9Girl "accomplishment" message. Very unfortunately, I only got an early clip. A few pics of the fun that night: http://www.g9girl.com/gallery Want to learn more about Violet (their favorite) and Felicity? http://www.g9girl.com/violet.html http://www.g9girl.com/felicity.html
