White and Black...When we begin life we are dropped hopefully into our fathers hands..who will nurture and guide us during our lives blazing the trail ahead of us in life....Yet when our time comes we must face death alone for no one goes with us over the river, when we get old, sick, are miserable, tired and worn out from the struggle of life and most importantly hope of recovery has faded to the point of extinguishment we ask for death to come and relieve us of our burdens....and death comes when we are ready.

I don't know if it's the hangover or what (Xmas party season, how tiring) but this thread is making me think a lot about the quote: "we live as we [die], alone" (to paraphrase Joseph Conrad) and whether or not that's true.

While I understand the existential basis for the modern concept of the alienated self, I think when you start looking at how people interact, the systems of influence that are created through human interaction, I think that I'm never alone. A good visual metaphor would be a candle between two mirrors. An experience (the flame) reflected and shared by people will carry on into an apparent infinity, while the sum of its parts shine brighter into the room beyond.

I'd like to think that at the moment of death, when my life is weighed, summed, and measured, that I'd take stock of those people who have formed my life and praise them for what they've given me.

I have yet to see a life that hasn't faced adversity ......

I can do little to stem the tide of darkness in the world....however I have embraced the darkness within...made it my own...... have become the veritble darkness....and thats why I am a man of wealth and taste...but a funny thing happened to Mr Hyde on the way to the park....he discovered he became Dr Jekell instead ......

Lucifer, the giver of light. We all have our demons within along with the kingdom of God. Up confirms down, left defines right. Without death, there is no life.

At the end of the day, titles are for books and names are for tombstones. It takes money to buy wiskey and we can all be sloppy drunk if we take beyond our means.
