Magnet Ribbons - Enough Already.

Man I'm tired of seeing these things. I passed somebody in a Suburban today with about 10 of these things. This is the biggest fad since the stupid Baby-on-Board signs of the 80's!

Well, as mature as that website is, I'd say you have a pretty good argument

Oh wait, no you don't. Get off your high horse. I'm going to go get one of those magnets, just for you. I suppose you were all p!ssy when people started buying American flags after 9/11 too. You must just hate "fake patriotism" as you probably call it.

I had a buddy who was pissed off when everyone started waving the flag after 9/11. I see his point, but whats to get pissed off about? People are busy with life, and if waving a flag makes you feel better and more united, then good for them. The part that I hate is that those flags rip off and causing litter.

I agree with cegerer, people fallow. But your not guilty of it Bryan? Your not guilty of posting on every war topic on the OT board?

I personaly think mass produced magnets/bumper stickers are stupid. Theres the...
-Darwin fish
-Regular fish
-Regular fish with baby fish
-Yellow ribbons
-Baby on board (cegerer, your point is best made with that one... "I'm supposed to be a better driver b/c your lame ass now has a baby in the car?")
-Type R badge (oooooo, i'm scared)
-Rainbow sticker
-Nor Cal/So Cal sticker (big time california thing)

Don't the profits from selling those go to a charity, or some type of cancer society? If thats the case who cares that a lot of people are just buying them to in on the fad, at least it's helping people.

And the Darwin fish is plain funny.

Bryan, there's no high horse here. It's simply another case of monkey see, monkey do - just like the '#3 Dale Earnhardt' stickers and the 'Baby-on-Board' signs. They just keep multiplying because people feel like they better have one too, or people might think they don't care ..... it's a fad, just like hulahoops, tattoos and mullets. Putting a magnet on your car really does nothing and indicates nothing, other than you are part of the fad.

While a few of these stickers may have a small percentage of the funds go to charity, most don't. They're available on the counter of every gas station in the country and a 100 websites and for a 100 different 'causes'. I even saw a NASCAR ribbon the other day ......

http://www.bewild.com/masuri.html

Actually, I'm just pissed because I didn't come up with the idea first and make millions off of it.

I thought it was hilarious when all the 'patriotic' Americans started plastering Chinese-made flags all over everything. Even better were the dipwads running around with full-size (Chinese-made) flags flying from the backs of their full-size pickups/SUV's, further decreasing their pitiful gas mileage, thus reinforcing our dependence on ME oil, which is what begat the problem in the first place!

there was a riced out honda that was driving around with a plain yellow one...facing up and down like it was cool or something. It didnt say anything on it. Maybe he thought cuse it was yellow it would add 10 hp?

They sell them at the 7-11 here. They are so flimsy, i took one and bent it and it snapped in half....so I proceeded to put it right back. LOL

The only thing about this ribbon and flag deal that makes me mad are those who poke at the people buying/displaying them. Vote for Bush, you're a Hick. Display a flag or support the troops, you're just one of the brainwashed sheep. Nobody thinks that because you don't have a yellow ribbon on your car that you're an insensitive eiltest who doesn't care for the troops. It's not like "do this or you're one of them."

It all comes down to tolerance. Lefties are supposed to be the tolerant ones, but they can't stand to see any display of anything that goes against their beliefs. Oh geeze, let's include everyone of every color and nationallity, but not those damn dirty hicks and Christians, they're uncivilized, brainwashed idiots.

Most of our fireworks are made in China also, but we use those to celebrate our Independence Day... They make good fireworks, and we like to watch them. Maybe they just make good magnets?

Bryan, if you've read any of my posts in Off Topic you know I'm as far from a Leftie as they come .... well, except for I'm left-handed For me, this has nothing to do with the troops or the war. I've seen them for cancer, POW's, AIDs, NASCAR, etc.

These things are as genuine and heartfelt as the OCC "POW/MIA" bike.

cegerer - I've read a lot of writings, and never thought you were a leftie. On this topic, this thread, you seem to be taking the attitude of the lefties, though.

General rule of thumb... When i say lefties, or "you people", I almost always mean the kool-aid drinking, howard dean supporting, moveon.org reading, hardcore crazies.... Nothing personal, of course

easy there. you know that I am probably further from the left than good ole Cedge, but even I am getting a bit weary of these yellow ribbons. from what I've seen, NONE of the profits go to support the troops (or any other altruistic cause for that matter) and the sight of 'em is getting just a bit dated. I'd like to see those who support our troops to do something meaningful for a change; something really uplifting and positive. in keeping with the Christmas spirit, I suggest that everyone who feels the urge to slap one of these ribbons on their car simply refrain and instead punch a whiny commie pinko lib in the mouth. we'd all feel so much better, and the world would be a whole lot better off

Now there's something we can all agree on.

Replace 'yellow ribbon' with 'swastika' and it starts to make more sense. Conform, or get punched in the mouth.

Waaa the SUV and trucks are ruining it for everyone waaaa.

Enough already with Porsche owners bashing SUVs and trucks. Unless you are driving a hybrid, you are a hypocrite.

Hush! Bryan's busy blaming something else on the "lefties." Facts are not welcome.

the king...err....queen of ribbons has got to be the breast cancer group. i am all for them, but i wonder why not just a cheapo yellow ribbon tied to the car, somewhere. after all these years, i have yet to see a pink magnet rendition of a ribbon in support for "the cure". i think somebody is getting rich off of the support the troops magnet thing. flag stickers is probably big business. i think we need to remember to "keep it real". me, i am gonna use a piece of bright yellow yarn, just to be different.

Make sure you wear the ribbon when you go on the AIDS walk. Ask Kramer!

Now that the Red Cross is behind it do you feel better? At least it's not those, umm... evil, capitalistic Chinese. ???
