Came to work today, to find out we are closing tell next year
The president called everyone into the lobby, about 100 people, and says, go home, we will see you next year.
Everyone gets the time off, paid, doesn't count toward vacation time. Sweet! Michael |
There wasn't a locksmith truck parked out front, was there?
|
Sweet!
You must work in manufacturing/fabricating/machine shop--some kind of skilled labor. A lot of them shut down for the holidays. I know Caterpillar here in Peoria shuts down the full two weeks of Christmas and New Year's. I work on computers...someone always has to be around as long as they are running. : ( (And I'm at work as I type this.) |
I work for HP, and they shut everything down for the week between xmas and new year. I, however, will be working - that's prime ''take the sytem down and nobody will b!tch" time.

Didn't see any guys in black suits, ear pieces and dark glasses hanging outside the lobby did you??
|
Ohhhh FK....I got one question WHAT IS WORK????
|
Well....I was way off.
I used to work on HP 3000's...now they're going away. |
Hmph. My boss is on vacation and busily emailing me questions.
|
I'm off until 1/3/05 as well - auto industry shuts down (I'm with a supplier). Our plants will be still running though ...
|
Aerospace generally shuts down to.
That said: "It's a sin to work over the Christmas Holiday, but it's an even bigger sin to not work over the holiday if they're willing to pay you at 150% your normal rate. I'll be working...;) |
Aghk... I do content management for our company's website. All the Christmas & Boxing day promos will be keeping me very busy. Ah well, I am taking the 29-31, and I'll get 4 weeks next year so no complaints.
|
Our boss does the same thing here with part of the workforce.
Bad thing is that we are the ones who fly him around so we are leaving for San Antonio (basket ball game) then on to Cabo San Lucas Mexico until the 2nd! Its called work but it sure is in a nice place! JoeA |
Yea, it'll be nice until they call you in January and say "you're all let go - sorry".
It DOES happen. Happened to my wife a couple of years ago. I guess they didn't want the layoff on their consciences so they waited until after the New Year. Of course it had the added bonus of having all the employees continue along fat dumb and happy thinking all was rosy so they spent as normal during the holidays only to end up unemployed a month later. Had they known, they'd have been able to plan somewhat better. Freakin' "corporate ethics" - what a joke! |
