Need Input on PCA!

Need Your Input on PCA national and local chapters. I was wondering what your impression was on PCA in general and your local chapter in particular?

Do any of you get involved in the events?

What do you think of PANORAMA?

How about your chapter’s monthly mag?

What would you like to see PCA national and regional chapters change?

BlueSkyJaunte 12-28-2004 05:55 AM

Lawyers, doctors, and rich old men.

Mike, This question has been asked a few times on the Tech board. Here's what 57 people had to say in the latest thread: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/193804-whats-your-impression-pca.html?highlight=pca

I guess the summary is:
Satisfaction depends on where you live, what you're looking to get out of the PCA and the people involved. Pretty much like any other "club".

Oh Blue!

I am not a rich old man, doctor or lawyer! But, I took on the job of local chapter VP because I like the group and what the club does. The track days are a neat way to get people out in their cars with an instructor and learn how to drive them better. The tours we put together are fun and a great way to get the spouse involved with the thing I love so much. The benefit of networking with others who enjoy these cars is valuable for those who do-it-yourself.

Pano is a nice mag and I enjoy it.

As Rick said, it depends on what you want. It is a social and driving club. Pretty neat deal for a little bit of money.

the golden gate region in the bay area is very good.

BlueSkyJaunte 12-28-2004 08:49 AM

For a while I kept my PCA membership so I could continue to receive Pano (not because of our local chapter!).

The Pano diatribe telling us why we should greet Pfefferwagen owners with open arms sealed the deal for me.

NNJR region is excellent. We have many activities to spend time in: rally, concours, tech seminars, autocross, Driver's Ed, monthly meetings, social events...etc.

NNJR is also one of the biggest regions, if not the biggest (2,200 members strong).

Excellent monthly magazine - Porscheforus. Better than Pano!

Oh, and yeah, I'm biased! I'm on the NNJR board of govenors, and I'm also one of the track tech co-chairs.

Best $$ I spent on my Porsche.
-Z-man.

PS: Shameless plug: check out the NNJR website: www.nnjr-pca.com We recently revamped it, and added one of them fancy message board thingies! :D

Z,

Because of your post I may go back for another look. A few years back I was turned off for a couple of reasons and left after many years.
I was an avid Concours participant.

Still meet in Randolph or in Basking Ridge?

...and I agree Porscheforus is a better read than Pano

Moneyguy1 12-28-2004 09:25 AM

Z....

Nice site!!

If only......

I have belonged to the national for 15 years. Local is something different. Back east, the chapter was dominated by 911 owners who let you know just what a "proper" Porsche was.

Out here, I have met one or two of the locals, but haven't really got involved. Not too many seem to be interested in working on their own vehicles, so I am kinda left alone to muddle as best I can. Perhaps if I were a bit more "outgoing", it would work out better, but I prefer one-on-one relationships where a few folks with a common interest can work together. Their loss. I swing a mean wrench.

Rick:
Sorry to hear that you left our club - as with all club, there is always issues (and politics) that turn people off. Though I'm on the board of gov's, I stay away from politics, and that's how I survive! :D

Vaino is the concours chair now - really nice guy - down to earth. (He owns a concours 951, and a 924S autocrosser!) Good friend of mine.

Our monthly meetings are up in the air right now - seems the Westin in Morristown isn't done with the renovations project they began months ago. We have used the Old Mille Inn in Basking Ridge this past year - a little tight fit, but a nice place to meet!

Our January meeting (January 12th) will be at the Parsippany Sheraton Tara (at the Rt. 80 / Rt. 287 crossroads). Guest speaker will be: Chris Economaki. Yes, the motor journalist Chris Economaki.

Come on out in January! Hope to see you there!
-Z.

Z,

I think I will. Funny thing is the Westin is literally less than a mile from my house. They gutted the entire building and are making it into a very high end premier property.
Tara is right around the corner from work.

Now to figure out who your are....still look like this? :D

Z pass the stuff dood!

Where is the regulation fire ext? Or roll bars and Porsche badge.

rcm 12-28-2004 12:57 PM

Hey Luber,
The local club to me is great. Lots of track days, tech days, social days and runs. They have a good local mag. Pano is for folks with very deep pockets. It'a mix of folks. Dedicated trackers, autocrossers and then some of the just social event people.

It's only as good as what you take out of it. Granted sometimes in some chapters there might not be anything you want.
Rick
