I've got some of their stuff. Heavier than others but seems durable.

Don't believe everything you read.

where did that rumor come from?

KevinP73 12-28-2004 07:46 PM

James Garner had a race team by the name of American International Racing. When he closed shop on the team around '68 or '69 Dan McLoughlin adopted the name for his business. Dan recently sold A.I.R and is no longer in the business.

On their own early brochures/catalogs.

The wording of the brochures and catalogs back then was very specific and intentional. Not much effort was made to indicate that the two A.I.R.'s were seperate entities and that James Garner was NOT a part of the Porsche/fibertrash business once McLoughlin adopted the name.

looks like another right-wing conspiracy to me

Good info. I remember the relationship struck me as odd at the time. However, I had no way of proving or disproving....and frankly it didn't mean much to me anyway. Appears to have been an attempt to lend celebrity to the business. Needless to say I never purchased parts from them.
