Id never thought about it until I read the post, but there is no way I could play a game and not smoke. Its a good thing I quit doing both.

I've got plenty of vices that's for sure. The problem with gambling is this. By the time you get really good at it you've already taken some serious lumps:(.
I generally stick to poker and games where there is no third party. I gamble on everything "I" do e.g. golf. I've always been that way. Football is stupid gambling, but I cannot resist the occasional easy dog bet (Jets today).

Shuie 01-15-2005 08:32 PM

so did you burn one? Or was it an easy win? Sorry, I didnt watch the game.

I used to bet every game that was televised. Gambling is way more addictive than smoking :)

I was just as bad a few years back. Had plenty of disposable income so it was ok win or lose. Got hit real hard one week and stepped waaaaaaay back and looked at what I was doing. Decided to only bet what I believed were gimmies and I've stuck with that pretty good. What I've learned is that even the gimmies end up closer to 50/50 than you thought:)

But anyway, the Jets game was an easy win so no real stress there. I was getting 10 and they were actually up a TD toward the end. Oh yea, no I didn't have a smoke.

Shhh..don't tell the wife.

Man I missed that one! You'll be fine man just DON"T use this as an excuse to have "one more". To be honest I should be MUCH harder on you. My reasoning is: I was in the Poker room last night and almost bummed one from the guy next to me. I was actually thinking it through in my mind how you guys would kick my ass:) It helped. If they let you of easy I may cave next time:) Nah just kidding.

P.S. so be honest, did it taste good or like ass?

tabascobobcat 01-16-2005 06:31 AM

It tasted awesome.

Dammit man! I was just about to eat. Im so sick right now.

creaturecat 01-16-2005 10:23 AM

have we lost k911sc? - no news is bad news!
Tobascobobcat - get back on the bandwagon! - don't let one slip up discourage you - look back thru this post - you've done too much to fail at this point. Think of the new child on the way-maintain the focus.

Sorry about that. Cancer is ugly.

HughA44s 01-16-2005 05:04 PM

Lendaddy, you sound to much like me -- its scarry. I love to gamble and have been playing Party Porker alot lately. The trouble is I love to chew and play porker, I also love to chew and work on my 944 (both of them), I also love to chew after I go for a run, I could go on all day. I am still clean and have not chewed but I have had some very weak moments. Thanks for the help you all!!!!!

Overpaid Slacker 01-16-2005 05:59 PM

Hell, if I can make it through that Jet game and not smoke, I must be doing something right. ... and I did, make it through the Jet game and not smoke.

So it'll be a week tomorrow!

tabascobobcat: failure is not having the cigarette; failure is giving up on quitting because you slipped once.

Where is k911sc? The World Wonders.

JP

tabascobobcat 01-16-2005 06:04 PM

Have not quit quitting .
Not much desire to fire up today.
Thanks for the support.
Go Steelers

Rot 911 01-21-2005 09:13 AM

Ok, it's Friday. How are you guys doing?

Overpaid Slacker 01-21-2005 09:28 AM

Not one smoke in 12 days... the past two nights I've had cravings -- not so much the nicotine craving, but the "all my buddies are going out for a smoke" craving. But then I recall how heavy and tight my chest would feel when I woke up in the mornings, and the headaches, and it's a lot easier to decline the invitation to go burn one.

Thanks for asking!

JP

juanbenae 01-21-2005 09:42 AM

the pipe is a regular in the evening now. just a drag or two after dinner.

David 01-21-2005 11:10 AM

Over three weeks and counting, I still haven't smoked :)

lendaddy 01-21-2005 11:18 AM

No smokie here either, though I would REALLY like one.

paralleltangent 01-21-2005 12:39 PM

Still hanging in there... coming up on 3 weeks.

tabascobobcat 01-21-2005 02:00 PM

I had just the one breakdown last weekend during the Steeler game, but have been OK since. Shouldn't be an issue this weekend as Pittsburgh is going to kick the Patriots a$$.

tabascobobcat 01-21-2005 02:01 PM

I am going to be "desiring" them a LONG time. I'm not sure how to descibe the grip, not physical but definately a strong mental one. I need another hobby or something.

dhoward 01-21-2005 03:27 PM

*****.
Mom called. Dad's 95% probable Laryngeal cancer.
How timely.
Guess I'm in now too.
Oh well, only had a couple left anyway...

azasadny 01-21-2005 03:32 PM

You guys are doing great, hang in there!!!

tabascobobcat 01-21-2005 05:09 PM

The desire just went away.
Good luck dhoward with your father.

dhoward 01-21-2005 06:16 PM

Thanks.
I appreciate it.

Moses 01-21-2005 07:12 PM

I'll try not to get all sentimental on you guys, but I'm really proud of all of you. In truth, I was surprised by the number of volunteers and the strength of commitment. Brothers, I am impressed!

Be strong.

tabascobobcat 01-21-2005 07:50 PM

I feel quite a bit of pressure not to disappoint the board.

HughA44s 01-22-2005 06:45 PM

How is everybody doing? I am still clean (04 Jan Quit Date) but am still fighting the cravings, some times real bad ones. For dhoward, the key to quitting is to quit before you have too. Sounds easy but it is not. I am battling weight gain by working out more and eating less. I did triathlons years ago and have a plan to get back into them. Again, thanks to the board for all the help, and yes there is strenght in numbers.

dhoward 01-22-2005 09:20 PM

I'm pissy.
But it could be worse.
I have a lot of little projects to keep me busy.
Worst in the morning with coffee.

Evans, Marv 01-22-2005 09:53 PM

If you guys make it through (I really hope you do), you will look back and see that you had a real monkey on your backs.
Hang in there!

Ninefourfour83 01-22-2005 10:00 PM

I wish my dad could go cold turkey like you guys. I hope it works. You have a lot of people behind you. Keep up the good work!

tabascobobcat 01-23-2005 06:37 AM

dhoward - my morning coffee tastes much better now.
Maxwell House now tastes like Starbucks did when I was smoking.

azasadny 01-23-2005 07:22 AM

After my grandfather was told he had lung cancer (which has since gone into remission after chemo, surgery and radiation), he had to give up his morning coffee. He didn't miss the cigarettes except when he had his coffee when he got up, so he quit coffee at the same time. He's been smoke-free for 2 years now, but I just wish he would have quit smoking BEFORE he developed lung cancer.

tabascobobcat 01-23-2005 10:01 AM

Too cold here to smoke my ribs out doors.
I'm making due with the oven and gas grill.
Go Steelers.

lendaddy 01-23-2005 10:03 AM

Hey BTW...... No smoking after the Steelers lose, this will NOT be an acceptable excuse:)

tabascobobcat 01-23-2005 11:19 AM

!@#$%^&

Overpaid Slacker 01-24-2005 06:23 AM

I had one Friday night; out boozing, you know. I thought "wonder if it'd still taste good", expecting, and hoping, it wouldn't. So I bummed one of my former flavor from a guy... and it tasted really good.

"Crap. Well, do I really want to start all this again?" and I smelled the "smoker's smell" on the guy from whom I'd bummed, " No."

I smoked half of it, dropped it in the bucket and went back inside.

I later in the evening (and the bottle) told one of my favorite jokes, for which a cigarette is virtually a prerequisite prop, and didn't even puff.

The next morning, I was hacking like I'd smoked 2 packs. None since; lost interest.

JP

lendaddy 01-24-2005 06:50 AM

Lets hear the joke:) I was VERY close to having a drunken 5rag or two myself. I held strong, but it was close. This chick next to me noticed I kept turning toward her. She said"Oh, I'm sorry is my cigarette bothering you?" My reply was something like "No, in fact I would prefer you blow it in my face since I just quit" I wasn't kidding, but she thought I was being sarcastic:) Lead balloon!
