Trying to quit smoking, Today!

Woke up and said today is the day. It's already tough at 9:00 A.M., and I know it will get worse before it gets better. I have to do this. I was at 2-3 packs a day, how ya like those apples?

Comeon Sup, go with me my man! You know you have to, so make today the day. Any others that want to share in this? We could do the online support group thing:)

Now where's my friggin coffee?!!!!!

I've been a closet (garage actually) smoker for years but I've gotten worse over the last few months. So my new year's resolution is to stop smoking. So far so good.

I quit smoking quite some time ago. just did it cold turkey. it worked for me. for me to "just do it" was the best way. never looked back either. good luck!

lendaddy 01-03-2005 06:00 AM

I've done it cold-turkey before, so I know it can be done. I was good for six-months straight then I slipped. Won't happen again, KOW!

ronin 01-03-2005 06:01 AM

lol. just don't be like Mark Twain. hang in there

Oh Haha 01-03-2005 06:42 AM

I stopped a few years ago as well. Cold turkey. Just put 'em down one day. Right before the huge price hike, too.
Keep working on it. Think of the Porsche money you will "automatically" have without having to purchase smokes!!

I figured it out at between $300-$400 a monthhttp://www.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/pukey.gif

The trick is to keep smoking out of your mind. Keep yourself busy and distracted. When one day goes by and you didn't think about having a butt then you're on your way.

IMO patches, gum and all the rest are reminders and make quitting even tougher.

juanbenae 01-03-2005 06:57 AM

i am about 2 1/2 hour into my yearly new years quit. got some nico gum and the urge to make it work this year. i lasted nealy 2 months last year, and six a few years before that. after the 1st couple days it gets easier during the week, but on weekends after a drink or five, thats when my resolve goes south.

well i really want a smoke right now, but i want to quit more as of now. stay tuned.

Isabo 01-03-2005 07:02 AM

I'm down to 5 - 6 per day from 40+ a year ago. I'm happy if I can keep it at that level.

Z-man 01-03-2005 07:13 AM

To all you quitters out there: GOOD LUCK! Hope it goes well for you!

I never was a smoker, but encourage folks who smoke to quit. Not only will you be saving $$, but you'll also be adding years to your life by quitting ASAP!

If you want to smoke, just go for a ride in your "toy car." That's a better substitute for smoking than anything....

Now, if I can just cut down on snacking this year....

lendaddy,

Good luck man. My quit date is coming up real soon so I'm counting on you! Just keep reminding yourself of all those nasty things that go along with smoking including standing outside in the cold stamping your feet whilst killing yourself.

lendaddy 01-03-2005 07:35 AM

I didn't really have a date in mind, I was just waiting for that morning where a smoke didn't sound that good. Today was that day. I'm fine right now, ok maybe not fine. But I'm OK.

cstreit:
Move your quit date up to TODAY! You can do it!

Don't forget, every pack of cigs you DON'T smoke adds 5hp to your RWHP! :D

This is the hardest part for most. Good time to quit drinking too.

I really like the idea of you quitting Lendaddy. Although it could result in the ongoing presence of a conservative, in this case it happens to be one I respect. I'm gearing up for the plunge myself but there are a couple of other changes I need to make, otherwise it won't work. I'm not going to be specific, but right now there is no question I would fail.

I have more than a little admiration for you, Len. Always have, and now you're tackling a jones that scares me to death. Inspire me. Shame me into following you.

juanbenae 01-03-2005 08:51 AM

the gum i got taste like S, boy would a camel light be good 'bout now.

lendaddy 01-03-2005 08:55 AM

Sup,

I was laying in bed last night probably about 2:45 A.M. as I usually do. But this time instead of thinking about business or politics I couldn't get this vison out of my head. It was a vision of me coming home to my wife and son having to tell them that I had cancer and having to look at their faces knowing the pain my stupidity had caused them. It was kinda a half dream half awake thing, but it wigged me out. Then I started thinking about how stupid I'm going to feel when the effects start to hit me later in life. I envisioned myself in the docs office when he says "I think you should sit down". Again, totally wigged out, I got chills. Like I said, I HAVE to do this.
