OT: Chicago entertainment ideas
Any Chicago members have ideas for things to do in Chicago the weekend of Jan. 14th? I'm taking my wife there to celebrate her birthday and I'm looking for things to do... shows, improv, muesums, galleries. Any ideas? Thanks.

Sodly,
Long time chicago resident here: Help us narrow down the field somewhat... Got a few questions that might give us some good ideas... 1) Budget for the evening? (Don't be shy ![]() 2) Do you prefer more mainstream stuff or local/off the beaten path? 3) Are you downtown? WHat hotel? 4) Any particular dining preference? (Steaks, seafood, asian, CHicago Dogs, etc..) 5) Is she into shopping? What kind? (Bargain hunting, High-end, etc..) 6) Do you mind taking cabs, or shuold they be walking distance? 7) As far as museums, Historical, Art, Science, Aquarium, preferences? 8) Shows: Blue Man Group or Ballet? So many many things to do, this may help fine tune...

I highly recomend Fogo De Chao for dinner. I haven't been to the one in Chicago yet, but I can't see it being a let down compared the one in Dallas I have been to. I really can't do it justice with a short description, but it is by far the best meal I have ever had. It runs about $50 a person for just the meal if I remember correctly, but it is well worth--this from a cheap guy.

Went to Second City about a year ago. I think they did one sketch that wasn't political. If you're a leftie, you'll be in good company. If you're a rightie and they find out, they'll show you the door.
I didn't find the writing particularly clever...they just spouted political truisms and waited for the applause. It was a kind of humorless comedy that reminded me of SNL in the mid-nineties. I found they also relied heavily on repetition. Something would be mildly funny the first time, but then they'd repeat it six or seven more times. Think of sketches that rely on a single catch phrase being repeated endlessly... The show also wasn't improv, it was all scripted. I was very, very dissapointed with the experience overall.

If I remember correctly, don't most of the museums close by 5:00? I remember being shuffled out of the Museum of Science and Industry a few weeks ago.
Is this more of a day thing or a night thing?
