335HP V8 Hemi vs. 340HP V8 Porsche

So my wife went out to pick up a few things for our New Year's party Friday and came back driving a new Dodge Durango Hemi ....... if you knew my wife, this type of behavior would not be totally unexpected.

Anyway, I snuck out early this morning while she was sleeping and took it for a little test drive With memories of my old Cayenne S still fresh, I was curious how a 'conventional' SUV with nearly identical HP and weight would stack up. Nice ride, solid feel, smooth auto gearbox, decent acceleration, slightly tippy handling, excellent instrument layout ..... in a nutshell? The Porsche could literally run circles around this thing! OK, it was almost half the price. But for 2 vehicles with the same HP/weight ratio, they're from different planets!

OK - no offense but this would have to rate as your least interesting thread ever.

Not even a whacky pic......

Come on Vic, gimme a break! Given all the hype Chrysler spews on the 'Hemi', I was figuring it would at least come close to the Cayenne on straightline acceleration. Not even close. Either Porsche is underrating their HP or Dodge is overrating their's.

Who makes the payments? In marriage, it's all 'community money', right?

Yeah, yeah, yeah. But how does it compare to a S4?

So how did you time it? Butt-o-meter? Sometimes what "feels" so much faster is only an insignificant difference.

So why did you sell the Cayenne? Did I miss something around here? (Quite possible). Seems like a Durango would be a major downgrade, but I'm sure there is some logical explanation(?)

The problem / explanation is that the "wife" left to go shopping in the Cayenne...

The Durango is not mine, it's her's! She/we need a tow vehicle and she was dead set on a Yukon/Tahoe/Suburban/Whatever. I suggested she think about something slightly smaller like the Durango. A few days later, she bought one! It's actually a very nice vehicle and has an 8900 pound tow rating.

And yes, it's was the butt meter. But even the published reports indicate 0-60 of 8 seconds for the Hemi Durango.

Denis, the Cayenne had accumulated 77,000 miles and it was time to sell or ride it out til the end. Decided to sell and buy something slightly different - an M3 ....

Peak HP and weight are by no means the only factors in 0-60 times.

It's kinda hard to bring home a load of lumber in a Pepper mobil. Apples and oranges. . . apples and oranges.

I'm new here so if/when I overstep my bounds, someone get me straightened out. But... What I think I just heard was your wife traded a PORSCHE in on a DODGE, without any mutual discussion prior to the disaster, err, I mean purchase. And you let her live? Good lord man, you have an obligation to the rest of mankind to get a harness on this type of behavior.

I think Curt still owns a Porsche, so on that front, he's the man.

Additionally, I think you're looking at this all wrong. Curt already decided he was going to sell or trade in the Cayenne and get a tow vehicle, so his wife just did the errand for him. When my wife goes to pick me up dinner from a restaurant, I don't complain. Indeed, this woman might be a superior life form.

I'm spooked of any new car. They have those black boxes that track your speed, braking etc.
