Taking the T into Boston
 

So I'm going to a show at the Axis (on lansdowne street) tommorow night and I don't really want to leave my car there unattended, I wouldn't know where to park or anything.. so I'm thinking it might be a better idea to drive to lowell or something and take the T...

What would be the best way to do this, coming from southern NH?

Would appreciate any advice.

if you want to make sure your car is safe, there are several parking garages in the area; there are two garages on Northeastern Campus, on Columbus Ave. There is also a large garage on Westland Ave, about 1/2 mile from the Fenway/Lansdowne Street area.

If you are adamant about taking the T in, you can park at any of the suburban T stations such as Newton (affluent town), and take the Green Line right into Fenway/Back Bay

I would recommend driving up and down Comm. Ave near Kenmore Sq. (around BU) and looking for a meter. The streets are well-lit and there are plenty of expensive cars parked on the street. I doubt anything would happen to yours.

btw, your car may be in more danger parked in Lowell than in Boston.

edit: on-ramp, that's what I was thinking, but I have a friend that lives in lowell and I could park my car in his driveway, but then again it still might not be safe there! I've heard some pretty bad stories about lowell.

i have a friend who used to live in Newton. Newton doesn't allow street parking, your car will get ticketed or towed.

They don't have T station lots? I know they do in Revere..

Riverside would be a good choice - not technically in Newton, but nobody will touch your car

Wow Riverside is really, really close.. only 29 miles..

There's 3 Riversides, apparently though.. which one are we talking about here?

edit: I'm going to assume it's the one in Middlesex, because the rest are WAY out of the way. Is there a lot/garage I can park at in Riverside?

there is a lot... i don't think the town is called riverside, thought, it is only the name of the T stop. End of the line for the Green Line.

That's how I usually get in when I'm back visiting the family - from southern NH it'd probably be closer to take route 2 into Alewife (end point of the red line), ride the red line in to Park Street, change for the green line to the Fenway stop, get off there. You'll be extremely close. Have fun, I've been to Axis a whole bunch of times - fun venue but tends to get packed. I'm actually kinda suprised it's still there.

I kind of prefer the Avalon(right next door) but the Axis is usually tons of fun as well... the best part for me is meeting new people, it's happened every time I've gone to a show there, but I'm hoping this time to meet someone I met the last time...

But anyway, that's another story..

There's so many options to get there, thanks for all the advice guys! Alewife looks appealing cause it's a bit closer - but would my car be as safe? I'm probably being over-paranoid, but this is a time where I'd rather be safe than sorry.

Alewife has a huge 5-story garage, it's fine. I've parked there many times.

Just to clarify, Newton does allow street parking, just not overnight during winter months. The Alewife station seems like a good bet. Also, Newton was rated the country's safest city this year.

Alewife is the most secure, it'll cost you $4.50 for 24 hours of parking there. The downside is that you're going to have to take the red line all the way to park street, then hop on the green line to kenmore. I'd say 45 minutes to 1 hour on the T for that one.
If you don't know Boston that well or would feel better parking in a garage, Alewife is the way to go.
However, if you feel like being a little bit more adventurous I would either take the advice of trying to park on Comm ave (not as hard as you would think, and comm ave is easy to find) or park one street back on Bay State Road at BU. The advantage of this is that the green line (the line that goes to lansdowne st.) goes literally down the center of Comm ave, and you'll be really close to Lansdowne.
There are also a crapload of parking places in the immediate area of Lansdowne because of Fenway Park. and honestly, I've never had a problem parking in the lot at Lansdowne street....I think last time it cost me $10, and I was about two good baseball throws from Avalon/Axis.
