Bow Tie Boy is Bye Bye

NEW YORK -- CNN said goodbye to pundit Tucker Carlson on Wednesday, and with him likely the "Crossfire" program that has been the granddaddy of high-volume political debate shows on cable television.

The bow-tied wearing conservative pundit got into a public tussle last fall with comic Jon Stewart, who has been critical of cable political programs that devolve into shoutfests.

"I guess I come down more firmly in the Jon Stewart camp," Jonathan Klein, who was appointed in late November as chief executive of CNN's U.S.Klein told The Associated Press.

I can't say that I have watched much of Tucker on Crossfire but that exchange with Jon Stewart was great TV.

tucker should have checked the ratings of the daily show, he may not have been all so tucker like. good day to you sir! glad to see him go, not that i ever watched the show, but i can't wait till jon addresses it on the daily show tonite...

He and Crossfire will not be missed. If CNN wants to clean up its image, this is a good start.

Who would have thought that the fake anchor of a fake news show on cable would turn into a kingmaker?

It looks like MSNBC is giving him a show. All Tucker all day. Wouldn't that be fun? He is not even the least bit entertaining to me and I voted for W, twice.

CT belongs back on PBS. Comic Jon Stewart is neither funny nor insightful. I think they kind of deserve each other.

He handled Stewart poorly, when he could easily have flipped Stewart's haughty vapid bull$hit back on him.

Not a big fan of either Tucker of Jon. Used to watch the Daily Show religiously (from the first episode w/ Craig!), but somewhere in the last two years it took a hard left. I've noticed a lot more ego from Jon Stewart recently too. I still watch South Park though...

Tucker I never really watched. He didn't seem all that intelligent or interesting...probably why CNN hired him.

CNN cleaning up its image...interesting concept...

How about FOX?

Seems as if, in order to make the ratings, you gotta have opinionated, closed minded, jingoistic "newscasters" to satisfy the viewers appetite for bread and circuses.

They'e mostly clowns..(I would have said all, but absolutes are generally flawed arguments)

I will not miss that smarmy wimp! Now, to get rid of Arron Brown!!

I guess it depends on your point of view. I think CNN's anchors are more opinionated than Fox anchors. And I do think CNN has an image problem.

The commentators (which is what Carlson and his ilk are) are just that - commentators - and can't be faulted for having strong opinions. There's an abundance of comentators on both channels, but getting rid of some of these circus-shows is a great thing, IMO. I'd be equally pleased to see Hannity and Colmes go away.
