Got Spammed by Ultimate Rally? Want it to Stop?

Gang,

This issue came up a while back and at that time, John Dunkle (Rennlist) had a similar issue. He posted the following as his remedy to the problem. If only I had my own server etc.

Mr Dunkel sez:
Quote:

Heh.....

Remember - there is no IQ test to post to the Internet... ;^) For
folks like Jon - I usually have a "special surprise" - along with the
folks that run his SPAM websites/servers and messages... Their
mailboxes fill up pretty fast with - along with the tech folks, support
folks, their abuse folks, their.. Actually - any e-mail address from
that SPAM server/IP address/Domain Registration....

I usually send back - oh - tens of thousands of copies of thier OWN
messages (to only that list of "users" - NOT THEIR SPAM list of hundreds
of thousands of folks who are their victims, not mine) - which after a
few minutes, elicts an e-mail to my ADMIN account, requesting that I
look into "copies" being sent....

Oh - OK..... Now that I have a REAL e-mail address, I start all over -
looking up domain names, contacts, president, Technical contact, sales -
and have my systems start sending... But, t usually stops after about
5000+ copies....

Next e-mail - is usually pretty frantic from them... I usually reply
"I'll look into it". Nothing more... Wait a few hours - and do it
again to the real addresses/domain names that they have now supplied.....

About 24 hours later - I'm ready to reply - something like:

"In looking at the logs, it seems your servers tried to SPAM my
servers (details of the e-mail here). Do it again, and I'll put EVERY
address from your company and associates into an infinite loop from
multiple IP blocks and addresses, so trying to block them would be an
exercise in how to be stupid. You won't be able to do it. Want to
try?. By the way - you are already reported as being a Spammer."

Works pretty well.... But, for that - Rennlist has been fortunate.
Over the past 7 years, it happens only very infrequently. If you want
SPAM on a list - try a Yahoo or Netscape list... Yikes!!!

For me? It's pretty entertaining....

Nice approach!
Nothing works like making them take their own medicine.

I was wondering who this bozo was and where he got my addy from.

I have issues with fax spamers...I photo copied myass...send a reply in a loop for 15 minutes....don't get it no more.....

LOL! I bet it wasn't pretty but sounds like it was effective.
Is someone spamming the spammer yet? Don't say if you are but boy it sure would be nice....

And there I was, excited and actually thinking I had become popular enough to warrant a PM from someone...

ah, maybe next time.

did you ever wonder if you could just make a loop of paper, then as it feeds out of the scanner tape it back on itself?

it would "send" in perpetuity.

Did this spam cause today's outage?

gchappel 01-07-2005 06:04 PM

The "old" fax trick was to make a loop out of black paper and send it out- uses up a lot of ink fast on the receive end. I just heard about it, I would Never think of doing anything like that.

Do a Google search for Mr. Kimble RE: Ultimate Rallye the Spam that I also recieved. My guess is that the PP site and database was hacked..thus all of our e-mail addresses were obtained. Hope customer account/order info and credit cards etc are more secure. Wayne?

The were Mr. Kimble "issues" recently at 6SpeedOnLine.com recently.

Steve

The info obtained didn't require a "hack". There was probably a script run that automated the process though. I'm sure the order information is on a completely different server.

What is being done to show this mofo with this "ultimate" race that he is not welcome. The site was very interesting though. They seemed to use this uber-fat guy as a model. I am sure that a 500 lb man will have no problem competing against the f1 cars that will show up. Also the race touts itself as being available to 200 people compared to the 500 people that went to space. You want to do something that none of your friends have done? Why dont you wipe my.....

That's Kimble I believe.

Seems like I'm not as lucky. Fax spammers never send thier real outgoing fax number. It's too easy to enter a wrong one to begin with. Mine is a "no number" fax machine. Never stopped me from doing business.

My wife is in an office that receives about 30 fax spams daily, many at night when thay can't cancel them. Since it's a world wide business, they have to leave the machine on 24 hrs. She tried using those numbers they "offer" to take you off the list. Hah! Total f---ing joke. Ink cartridges and paper are a cost of doing business in this suck society.

The real issue is how he got into this system!

OK, EDIT, then: All he did was use the information I provided to Pelican so that friends, acquaintances and future both could contact me. Now, I guess, I gotta remove that info or have my relatively unknown email address sucked up into data bases.

Up 'till now, I've received very few commercial messages. I did receive an offer for a diploma about a month ago that had a return addy that had part of a Pelican's name in it. Sort of like a Mrs. Dempsey instead of Wayne. Of course, that wasn't it. Anyone else get that one?

Could always do what /. did to Alan Ralsky (spam king up in Chicago area, published a pic of his house, the street, and the town in a paper magazine about business). Some enterprising geeks (and if any place has 'em, its slashdot) figured out that the catalog request forms for various outlets like Harriett Carter, the "free book and a visit" from the Mormons (or other religous groups), etc. were mostly scriptable, in the same way the PM attack happened here.

His home snail-mail went from normal to a little heavy to a few bags to the post guy calling first to see where he could back the truck up and unload in less than a week.

Revenge can be sweet, but getting ahead is better.
