Wink Where are all the guys who said they like to buy "Win a car" raffle tickets?

Last year I asked on this board if a raffle was a good idea to raise money for my daughter's school. A few people responded that they sometimes buy these tickets and a few knew people who had won.

Ours is officially up and running. Take a look and let me know what you think. Please pass it on to anyone you know who participates in these drawings:

http://www.kashandkeysforkids.org/

Tickets are $100 each, or 3 for $250. Prize is your choice of Porsche Cayenne, Mercedes SLK 350, or BMW 530i. Of course there is a "cash option" of $45,000. Odds are around 1:162. There are some cash prizes, and an early bird drawing. Max of 2100 tickets will be sold.

As an incentive to get parents to sell, they get a free ticket if they sell four. I'm working on the auction so I can't enter - if someone buys four tickets ($350) you get my free ticket - for a total of five tickets for $350. This has to be done through me and not on the web site. It's all for a great cause. All money will be used for school improvements and operating expenses.

How can the odds be 1:162 if you are selling 2100 tickets. I'm no math major, but Unless you buy more than one ticket it seems like the odds would be 1:2100. If the tickets are thrown in a drum, how could you even determine odds?

I'm guessing odds for a prize is 1:162. Odds for the grand prize, however, is 1:n (where n appears to be 2100 here).

Yep, that's overall odds. 2100 tickets/13 prizes = 161.53846. I guess if you buy after the early bird drawing the odds go to 1:175.
