Farewell to Red UFO………a poem

Farewell to Red UFO………a poem.

Living in the fast lane - close to the edge.

Didn’t bother to obey the traffic signs - way up ahead.

Crybabies wailed – Z man heard.

Red UFO is now free as a bird.

See page two of this thread, did he have it coming?

PS: Never use the F-word, and I don't mean Fuch's.:D

Well I'm the guy he used it on, and I've been called worse. On the other hand, for a guy that liked to dish it out, he sure couldn't take it. I for one will not miss him.

bryanthompson 01-13-2005 10:23 AM

I've got a poem, but I can't think of anything that rhymes with "and don't let the door hit you on the way out".

techweenie 01-13-2005 10:26 AM

Doesn't seem to me that Red was any worse than several others, but he was at the red end of the political spectrum, wasn't he?

Mule 01-13-2005 10:33 AM

I don't mind controversy as long as there's some intelligence involved. I can't say that I recall much of that on his part.

I generally don't believe in conspiracy theories, right wing or otherwise. And RedUFO was certainly living on the ragged edge of decorum (and beyond). So I doubt his politics had anything to do with it. Z-Man seems to be pretty fair IMO.

That being said, I agree that some really heinous things have been said here without consequence. Here is a particularly outrageous comment from the generally inappropriate "Cool Chick" thread which should have prompted a heartfelt apology if not an outright ban.

OTOH, if I understand correctly, monitoring this BBS is not Z's day job. He, quite literally, has better things to do than spend all day being our civility police. Perhaps the OT BBS can emulate the 911BBS and engage in some "self correction". I can't remember the last time JackO had to ban somebody.

Rot 911 01-13-2005 10:40 AM

By the way kach22 this is what I posted on the other thread that apparently got Red banned:

Z-Man, looks like you have been used.
I hate being used like that myself. I also dislike sissies who cry for teacher to help them after they started something they can't finish.
No class guys, consider growing up.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

For the record kach22i, I have never complained ABOUT ANYONE TO ANYONE INCLUDING Z-MAN. And before you start making accusations about me, how about doing a search to see where I stand on banning people in OT. I have consistently stated that this is a free speech arena and no one should be banned because of their opinions.

Rot 911 01-13-2005 10:43 AM

To follow up my last post, just in case you don't feel like searching. Here is what I wrote in response to the suggestion the 952 be banned:

"Once again, I am late to the party. I agree 952 has to be one of the most, if not the most, irritating trolls we have had on the board. But, except for his anti-American diatribe, his attitude and language is no worse than a number of others that post here. If we can't handle the antics of 952, then I say we are no better than he is by trying to ban him. I say let him stay."

kach22i 01-13-2005 10:50 AM

Page two of that ill-fated thread is still intact.............that is untill the wrong doers edit their post to cover their tracks.

Bullies are cowards they say...........prove me wrong and don't edit your post Kurt V. Let the record stand, no more trickery or PM wars. (edited, because I don't know who sent who a PM, that's why they are private, right?)

I have had people edit their posts on me, to make me look bad and cover their tracks. I edit my post only - scratch that "typicaly" to correct my poor spelling, lets hope we all have the same standards.

Are you proud of yourself Kurt?

juanbenae 01-13-2005 10:51 AM

is the ban forever? we can only hope..

If you spent more time reading and less time accusing you would see that it was Z-man and not me that edited my posts. And like I have said before, I have never PM'd Z-man regarding any complaint, actually I don't think I have ever PM'd Z-man about anything.

I'll take your word for it - thanks for clearing that up.

Kach -
You could've made it a "Bye-Ku".

Demented. Profane.
Ignominious Ouster.
Pelicans Grieve Not.

When RedUFO was at his/her/its most medicated, there were occasional insights. Not a lot of wit, but wit is the gravy, not the meal.

However, more often than not, IMHO RedUFO was in full-on moonbat mode and not worth the bandwidth to suffer. Not that I'm an arbiter of what's generally "worthwhile" hereon, and "value added" is manifestly not a membership criterion.

Personally, I can abide a lunatic's presence -- if they're civil. Techweenie, for instance, is crazier than a *****house rat, but he's usually well-mannered.

The vile ad hominem attacks typical of RedUFO's unhinged moments were more than enough cause for eviction.

The Internet is a big place and RedUFO can find a different well to poison.

JP

j/k Tech. About the being crazy thing, I mean.

Superman 01-13-2005 11:40 AM

Hope you were kidding about techweenie.

UFO crossed the line, or so it seems. I've never complained to anyone at Pelicanparts about anyone, though I am credited with getting one person banned. Notice I did not use the term "blamed," but rather "credited." Indeed, it seems there has been some PM collusion here, but that's been the territory of the conservatives. You guys must be really proud of yourselves.

I've said many times over the FIVE YEARS I have been chatting on Wayne's site that the freedom he gives us is his strength and ours. Outside the OT forum, we've been a really glorious community. Here on the OT forum we've been a bunch of evil, wicked, ignorant, bigotted children. And that's the charitable description.

I guess the thing I wonder more than anything is whether the neocons here would like a forum where they can discuss politics without having to be interruped by a "liberal." I think some of the facts in this world, and some of the questions raised here, are difficult for them to respond to. If, that is, they think. Which is doubtful. There is virtually a liberal-free forum here now. Perhaps there should be a clean sweep, so you guys can pretend that commerce is King, that violence is a solution and that people are important providers of labor so that the stock market can heat up more. In other words, perhaps people who are concerned about other people are just uncomfortable for you guys.

Oh, and I have said many times that folks who categorially deny the legitimacy of conspiracy theories are imagining that the behavior they see every day is not done by politicians. See? Some of the stuff you guys are certain of, I could not have believed even in my wildest hallucinations. That the business people I deal with collude daily, but politicians are above all that. If this is the kind of idea you guys want to pat each other on the back for believing, then maybe you should be left do to that by yourselves. Facts are only going to make you guys angry. Angry enough to post hundreds of wishes that someone will be BANNED. Which just happened.

Overpaid Slacker 01-13-2005 11:55 AM

Of course I was kidding about Tech, Supe -- I said so at the end -- the j/k part. And that wasn't what I added when I edited the message. I had to edit the bye-ku; I miscounted syllables and had to change "lament" to "grieve." I always sucked at Japanese poetry.

Supe, in never missing a chance to take a limp-wristed slap at some conservative strawman, it appears you have the pathologies about conservatives that you ascribe to them: the intolerance, the characterization of others' arguments in over-simplified cartoonish terms, and the resulting arrogant elitism. At least, if the neocons are what you claim they are, they've got company.

FTR, I do not condone any PM campaign (or similar activity) to get someone ousted from these boards. If someone is making these boards so intolerable for you, air your grievances or avoid that person.

I believe that Z-man has done a laudable job sweeping out the trash sua sponte. If in fact there are "whispering campaigns" or some kind of Star Chamber activities going on here to get people banned, knock it off.

He was banned from rennlist and now here. I say good by to another antaginst. Good work Z-man.

Owain 01-13-2005 12:00 PM

Red posted from an extremist viewpoint that seemed to rile people of the opposing view quite a bit, but 'the other side' has it's own adherents who do the same thing. What I find funniest (in a haha way) is how his view on extra-terrestrials was beaten down by some here. A lot of those folks who derided him for being a wacko on this point are the same ones who also post about how jesus is the son of god etc. As far as I can tell there's no more proof of the claims of religeous adherents than there is of the presence of extra-terrestrials. How can one be so 'open-minded' to the existence of one unprovable and not to the other.

I don't know for sure but it always seemed to me that he was using a 'belief' in ETs as a counter point to the belief in the 'word of god'. Kinda like saying "I'll see your crazy and match it with this one. Now you know how you look to me." It seemed to go hand-in-hand with his political counterpoints to the right, here.

Maybe, in his own strange way, he was trying to help us all be better, more thoughtful members of the community, to possibly consider an alternate point of view. Was he a little too subtle ( ) for some here? Sometimes once you've found the extremes you find that the truth actually exists somewhere in the middle.

In the immortal words of Jacques Villeneuve: "It's a big world out there. You have to see a little farther than your nose."

Mike(dat's me) 01-13-2005 12:55 PM

bah - I am usually a "quiet" observer most of the time, but Red pushed every limit he could. Consistently took shots at Z-man too... so this would happen if he ever was banned.

In my opinion, Red was a troll. He would take the most extreme opinion he could and throw it in the face of those he knew it would bother. I do not believe that he even believes a lot of what he spewed, and in my book that means troll.

At least he was good at it though...

Speak for yourself super-duper man. Don't drag the rest of the board into your self-loathing private hell.

Red got banned because he violated one of the fundamental tenets of the board: use of profanity. But that alone didn't do it: he engineered a work-around to the filter that is intended to block Wayne's BUSINESS PREMISES from profanity. The occasional vile oath could be tolerated by Z-man, but such a dedicated attempt to lash out at another user put the crosshairs squarely on his aluminum hat.

It is entirely predictable for you to attribute banning of a user to politics, not bad behavior. Do you have ANY conception that individuals have to be held responsible for their own actions, and that adverse outcomes usually are the direct result of their OWN ACTIONS? Or have modern theories of "JUSTICE" overriden this most fundamental view of cause and effect?

Don't answer, I'm not listening.

turbocarrera 01-13-2005 01:33 PM

Red only dropped the F-bomb after being personally attacked by Ronin and Kurt.. maybe he felt(wrongly) that if the attacks were ok, then so was the profanity. NZ had the same fate.. I watched those threads closely and the same thing happened.. the cons attacked, the lib wigged.. and the lib got banned.

The things that were said to Cool Chick were the same.. cons using disgusting language to piss her off.. she just happened to have the cerebral fortitude to ignore most of it.
