Indonesian peace lovers give US 90 days

This morning's news had a story about the Islamic govt of Indonesia telling the US that whatever help they intended to provide needed to take place within 90 days. 'Causa after that they needed to get the hell out. Additionally they refused to allow US aircraft to perform required training flights in their airspace, refused to allow US soldiers to sleep on their soil and said any plane or ship coming into their territory MUST have a Indonesian liason aboard. As a result, one carrier battle group has already left.

Here is my take on this. Of the billions of dollars flowing into that area, most will end up in the pockets of thugs. They don't want help, just money. Why? 'Cause they don't give a damn about their own people and are only interested in cash. Kind od like those "will work for food" people. Try & get one to come cut your grass. Nope, just in it for the cash.

Mule, you certainly have an imagination. Have you read anything about Indonesia? I mean, anything objective?

The other day I heard a similar news report. They are restricting air space and landing facilities for the US.

Sure, but for the "rest of the story," check with Mule. He has answer to all the "why" questions.

The hardest hit area in Indonesia is in the Banda Aceh area (northern tip of the Sumatra Island). The separatists in Aceh have been fighting against the Indonesian government for autonomy for quite time. The civil war got so bad that the Indonesian government pretty much sealed up the Aceh area even prior the earthquake and tsunami (i.e., no foreign journalist, no tourists, special permission required, etc).

I believe the Indonesian are grateful for any help. However, they have a dilemma as they are concerned about the safety of the foreign relief troops in this area (not just US troops), that is, fear of being attacked by the separatists. Imagine the U.S. inadvertently getting embroiled in a civil war:

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=574&e=11&u=/nm/20050113/wl_nm/quake_dc_286

The good news is...just heard in the news...the separatists are calling a ceasefire with the Indonesian govt to allow relief work to occur safely.

P/S.
The same situation is happening in Sri Lanka....there has been a civil war between the indigenous Sri Lankans (primarily Buddhists) and the Tamils (primarily Hindus). The tsunami tragedy is causing a bit of dilemma for the govt and relief agencies in distributing aid.

Superman, I value your opinions marginally more than pinkie's. If you think those FACTS are imaginary, dispute them, that is once you finish sticking your opinions up (oops, don't want to get banned).

Yes, your first paragraph appears to be the facts. At this point, most of us think "Huh? What's up with that?" No you, apparently.

"'Cause they don't give a damn about their own people" That's not fact.

Mule as you know, no matter what, Lefties will cry foul at anything our govt. does as long as a republican is in charge. If we help we are wrong and if we do not help we are wrong and it is all W's and Cheney's fault including the big wave and the lack of a warning system.

Logically challenged eh? Why do you run off the people who are there, on the ground, providing massive assistance? Don't want those infidels contaminating the ground? Better they should die in misery?

Not that they do not give a damn, but they care about other things more.

Learn about East Timor if you have any doubts to the ruthlessness of that regime.

Any who dontates (US Taxpayers included) should be concerned about potential pilferage of these monies being donated.

Yeah, right. Leave it to the conservatives to assume that any market that is not wide-open to U.S. commercial exploitation is filled with terrorists. Hey, maybe we could stop name-calling. Or maybe we need to return to it, as an illustration.

Actually, I would think that Indonesia would have some real beauty to a conservative. There, it is the INDIVIDUAL who is regulated, not the industrial power base. Isn't that a perfect place? What am I missing?

It's not an assumption as much as it's the exact truth. Poor countries are depressing and sucky. Their leaders steal their resources and tell them to hate the West because of it. Countries that don't trade with us don't gain wealth, they aren't free, and they hate us. I don't see what's so complicated about that.

Don. I could hardly believe my eyes when I read Bryan's remark. I probably should have expected it, but this is the kind of arrogance and ignorance that actually, physically makes me shake my head. It's similar to another remark I made elsewhere moments ago on this Forum about conspiracy theories. There are folks out there who just simply deny that perhaps politicians play games. It is incomprehensible to me that folks can believe some of the things they say.

So, just for the record, many people see what Creaturecat and I see. Few of them post here though, because you guys do not welcome ideas you do not already have.

You know Supe, I appreciate a lot of what you say around here, seriously. But sometimes the things you say are just too over the top. Just because people disagree with your ideas/ideals doesn't mean that yours are not welcomed. I really think that for 99.9% of what you write people appreciate what you say. Without folks like you, it would be like sitting in a room full of librarians debating the dewey decimal system. Sure it could be done but really who wants to.

No, I do not believe all of the conspiracy stuff that I have seen you comment upon (and others for that matter). I find a lot of it without substantial basis in fact. I do find it intersting though. Kinda like I find Dan Brown's books to be withouth substantial basis in fact but definately interesting. I'm sure if Mr. Brown posted here he would receive some similar "attacks" that you do in your comments but they, like yours are welcomed in my book.

What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul!

Mule, if you understood that indonesia is a 'US Ally' that is trying to keep our bleeding heart doo gooders from helping the rebels there (also muslim by the way) via assistance to areas which are rebel strongholds then you might be more aware of the stupidity (or should I say ignorance and arrogance) of your post.

Indonesa's military makes saddam's look like a bunch of boy scouts so I sympathise with anyone trying to overthrow that government. Unfortunately since they let US corporations use their country as a third world gulag you can guess which side of this battle the US government has come down on.
