Spreading Democracy

looks like " Spreading Democracy " will be the new party line ...

Conda-whatever Rice was grilled by congress about truth smokescreen .. spewed " Spreading Democracy " as "NEW" reason for Iraq War... Dubya's speeches will also be spewing this as well.

sorry you've been out of touch lately, Don, but this reason has been cited all along. like I've said since the war began, where is the liberal idealism now?

In the tank with all the other idealisms that have died horrible deaths when everyone finds out just how human and perverse we all are.

I don't quite remember anyone saying, " lets invade Iraq to spead Democracy " ....

azasadny 01-18-2005 03:53 PM

I distinctly remember the primary reason being "weapons of mass destruction" and "threatening us with terrorism". Bush said he didn't want to do any "nation-building", so how can you "spread democracy" without "nation building"? Perhaps the new technique is "nation destroying"? Sorry to be so cynical...

"Let me tell you what else I'm worried about: I'm worried about an opponent who uses nation building and the military in the same sentence. See, our view of the military is for our military to be properly prepared to fight and win war and, therefore, prevent war from happening in the first place."
George Bush, November 6th 2000 (the day before the 2000 election)

Why again did Saddam not give complete access to the arms control inspectors?

What was he thinking?

Was he someone who's word was to be trusted?

turbocarrera 01-19-2005 01:48 PM

The last time the inspectors were there, they had complete access to everything - Bush kicked them out and started the war. We just went over this a few days ago.

from CNN online today...

Boxer denounced Rice for what she said was making Americans believe that the war in Iraq was part of the United States' response to the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks and convincing the public that Saddam Hussein possessed weapons of mass destruction when he didn't.

Rice responded: "It was a question of an attitude about terrorism" that justified the war in Iraq, she said.

The last time, huh? With the US Army knocking on the door. A day late and a few dinars short. I think the day the DOD started leasing space on cargo ships would have been a better idea..
