Joe Arpaio -the guy who runs Tent City? Toughest Sheriff in the USA?
I'm presently working financing for a gal who is all for him, I guess he saved her from an ex husband or something like that - went out of the way to gimme a history lesson about 'em. Guess that means he's pretty popular.. |
I voted for him! There's always stuff going around about shady business in his office, but he's tough on inmates and animal abusers. That makes him OK in my book.

This may be the guy who's been featured on TV last yr ?

Five Pounds of Speed
Alleged meth sale to detectives lands 5 undocumented immigrants in jail
3TV AND AZFAMILY.COM STAFF PHOENIX - Five Mexican nationals are in jail after they allegedly tried to sell 5 pounds of methamphetamine to Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office detectives Tuesday night. The detectives met with the four men and one woman at about 8 p.m., near 35th Avenue and Van Buren Street. During the sale, the detectives identified themselves, prompting the suspects to lead detectives on a foot pursuit. The suspects were quickly caught. Detectives said they found a handgun with one suspect. The street value of the meth is about $200,000. According to Sgt. Travis Anglin of the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office, the undocumented immigrants live in the Phoenix area and make their living selling drugs. |
The SOB needs to be put in his own jail. He is as corrupt as they come and was dropped by his own political party and Sen. McCain this year. Somehow he keeps getting elected but who knows how.
He authorized his deputy's to sleep with prostitutes THEN arrest them. The prosecutor dropped all the cases saying that it was a blatent abuse of the law and waste of the public system and Arpaio gets away with it. He then sends one new inmate to the "country club" portion of the jail and it turns out that this kids dad donated something like $10,000 to Arpaio's re-election fund. Am all for "law and order" but this guy is way out of bounds. JoeA |

Can anybody tell me why "illegal aliens" are now "undocumented immigrants"???? It's simple, really. Too many LA and SF liberals live in Phoenix now. |

Thought so. BTW, I consider any County Sheriff to be the supreme law enforcement officer of his area. Why? He's elected. The other cops aren't.
|
Joe,
Unfortunately Arpaio is a politician. He never would've gotten elected in the first place if he wasn't. Show me one--just one--politician who isn't dirty. At least Arpaio's dirt is relatively nickel-and-dime. |
I dont know to much about the guy, but I do like his concept of how a jail should be.
|
Sheriff Joe. What an FN joke! This guy is a comic rendition of Barney Fife. But the informed voters just love that pink underwear and tent city stuff. Should criminals be treated tough? Damn right. But how about by someone whose agenda isn't Joe for Governor. Every law enforcement officer I have talked to hates this guy with passion.

He gets re-elected because the COunty is tired of coddling miscreants.
Simple as that. THe recividism rate is lower than most other counties. |
Bob,
I tell you what, we will send him down to Pima County so he can waste your money. The dumb bastard was on the news the other day for implementing pink handcuffs. WADAFUG is that about if you will tell me. Alan Poh '77 Carrera 3.0 |
Hey..Whatever works....
Let's see what happens. According to the paper, he wanted them because his were being stolen by the local police departments!! |
He's dirty, but the public sure does love a show...
|
Am 50/50 on the pink handcuffs. Come on, if you cannot keep something like handcuffs in order, how in the world can you be trusted with a multi-million dollar budget? The Sheriff's Office has never been audited and Arpaio refuses to allow it. Jeez, wish I could run a public institution like that !
Several news organization have tried to get a detailed list of the SO's budget but Arpiao refuses to open it up. His press sect goes against the law and refuses any request for information from newspapers and our wonderful legal system goes along with it! On and on the SO does what it wants and rarely gets slapped for it. The New Times newspaper here in Phoenix has reported on the numerous abuses by this department and its "leader." Please do not get me wrong, I agree with many of the things he has done but the many civil rights abuses coupled with the "special" treatment of his political friends is against the law, something that he has sworn to defend. The man is a loose cannon and its just a matter of time before the rest of the citizens see him for what he really is and force him out of office and possibly into his own jail. JoeA http://www.phoenixnewtimes.com/special_reports/arpaio/index.html Speaking of gutless leaders . . . The five boneheads who make up the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors are masters of dodging the bullet. Even though I already knew the answer, I called all five supes last week to ask them what they were doing to open two recently completed jails and support buildings that cost taxpayers (get this!) $500 million. Not one of the cowards returned my call. Here's the deal: Prisoners can't be put in the 3,227 beds in the two jails because Maricopa County has been unable to attract the 1,200 detention officers it needs. This is a huge and embarrassing problem that supervisors are desperately trying to ignore. While much of the blame for this fiasco lies with Sheriff Joe Arpaio (too few detention officers want to work for the fool), the supervisors are also responsible. It's the supervisors who set the budget for the sheriff's office. And it's the supervisors who are ultimately responsible for ensuring that a countywide one-fifth-of-a-cent sales tax dedicated to building and operating jails is properly spent. In an attempt to hire more guards, supervisors last year raised the starting salary to $32,000 a year and lowered the hiring age to 18. But even this hasn't attracted enough new guards to fill the shortfall. Chris Gerberry, president of the Maricopa County Detention Officers/Deputies Association, says the problem results from Arpaio's vengeful and paranoid management of the MCSO. Bottom line: Arpaio has created a criminal justice crisis in Maricopa County by failing to fulfill his primary obligation as sheriff -- which is to safely operate the county jail system. So what can the supervisors do to force this duly elected official (however pathetically inept) to run his office properly? They can freakin' take steps to find out why the MCSO is in such a mess, and then do something about it! Here's the first step they should immediately take: Order a complete performance and financial audit of the sheriff's office -- something that has never been done since Arpaio came into power in 1992. (It would be unimaginable for an entity of this size to go unaudited for 12-plus years in the private sector!) Here are the names and phone numbers of the supervisors: Chairman Max Wilson, 602-506-7642; Andy Kunasek, 602-506-7562; Fulton Brock, 602-506-1776; Mary Rose Wilcox, 602-505-7092; and Don Stapley, 602-506-7431. Call them up. Demand that they audit Arpaio's shop for the first time in history. E-mail john.dougherty@newtimes.com, or call 602-229-8445. |
Good Luck with that band of thieves. Mary Rose and her partner in crime, Earl, have make "Barney" look like a choir boy. They have been stealing from the public and their constituants for about 35 years. When she got shot in the ass a couple of years ago by the loony who busted into a meeting, I remember my Dad saying: Shot in the ass? She is all ass." Max Wilson was my boss years ago when he owned Design Master homes. He could work a deal then, and I am sure he has not forgot much.
