UK help needed:
UPS asks this:
Based on your shipping origin and destination, UPS suggests that you use the forms checked below. Invoice U.S. Certificate of Origin U.S. Shippers Export Declaration (SED) Do I really this this crap to ship a set of brake pads to the UK?? |
For something as heavy as brake pads, yes, and you will need the larger more detailed customs form.
Clovers End, The Lane, Ifold, Billingshurst, West Sussex RHxx 0UH United Kingdom |
All you really need is the SED but British customs is very particular about it's citizens trying to evade VAT (tax) by buying out of country. If the forms are not filled out the package will sit in customs until you provide your first born on a platter. And they will spot check stuff if it does not pass the sniff test.
Had a buddy of mine who's a bit down on his luck ask if I could send him mini-ipods that he could sell on ebay.uk to make some extra cash for x-mas. Mini-ipods are so hot in the UK that people will pay extra to get them out of the States. He buys them from the Apple store on his card and has them shipped to my house, I turn around the next day and send them to him. Did all of the proper documentation but listed them as gifts to avoid the dreaded VAT. That was Dec. 18th, he JUST got them today. Scott |
I wrote him and said this:
"I quite concerned about shipping to the UK per the below warning from a friend. (And I listed some of the info here) Any tips? Please advise - Craig" This finished off my note. |
I would send it by USPS air parcel post unless you want to spend money or the parts are needed quickly.
You will need to fill in the larger customs form. If you are "creative" the parcel will be delivered fairly quickly, usually up to three weeks. I assume that these parts are a "gift". For your information, "Billingshurst" is the town and "West Sussex" is the county Funnily enough, Billingshurst used to have a Porsche dealership in the town center. If you are sending by UPS, then the "invoice" is one you produce and they will need three copies. Doesn't have to be anything fancy, something you run up on the computer will do. Nothing else is needed. Obviously we have to supply company invoices for customs checking as we send parts to Cyprus and places like that. Call UPS and see what their best price and delivery times are first. |
Clovers End, (This is a house name)
The Lane, (this is the street) Ifold, Billingshurst, (this is the postal twon) West Sussex (this is the county) RHxx 0UH (this is the zip code) United Kingdom Note the zip codes in the UK allow you to address post with merely a number and a house number or name. ie the zip code defines the county, the town the street and even the side of the street as needed. SO in theory the address could be CLovers End RHxxxxxx UK anf the paclage would get to the right place...better leave that for a letter not parts... |
It costs $99.02 to ship a set of GT3 pads via UPS to the UK. wOw.
|
if you can get them into the USPS Global priority flat rate envelope it should be MUCH cheaper...to most countries it's $9.

He just replied:
------------------------------ Hi, I`ve never had a problem with goods sent from the USA to the UK. I have imported 4 x sets of Pirelli PZero Corsa tires from Tire Rack USA just before Xmas and they arrived in 4 days. Please mark the invoice as "race application only" Please confirm that you are able to send as per my invoice below.Thank you for your concern. |
Clovers End,= house name
The Lane, =street Ifold, =village Billingshurst, =town / city West Sussex,= county RHxx 0UH,= zip United Kingdom, race application is vat (tax) exempt and will pass customs much quicker. Shouldn't take more than 7 days. |
Learned a LOT with this -
I shipped the GT3 pads via USPS. 11 lbs (these are G I A N T pads!)$56, piece of cake, zero hassles. I'll use the USPS again for my next overseas shipment! |
