Too much fun in the sun, so wear your sunblock

This is the third skin cancer I've had remove and the first on my face by surgery. It's Basil cell carcenoma ( sp?) so not life threating.
I'm told most of this damage to the skin occurs at a very young age so keep your children and yourselfs protected.

It's been just 24 hours since I had the surgery. For a little spot to start out with I was surprised by the size of the incision, 20 stitches.
They do what's called a Mose (SP?) procedure where they check to see they get all the cancer. My Doc got it all the first time.

I was thinking maybe this would be an inch long going in

I've had no pain. Well a couple of the shots stung pretty good. He said a curved line is less noticable than a straight line.

After 40+ years of surfing I dont spend any time sitting on the beach without a shirt and hat on or under a shade cover.

Bob, Thanks for posting this, it's a public service announcement. My Dad has had a few of these removed, I'm just waiting for that shoe to drop for me. I try to avoid too much sun as an adult, (I'm a blue-eyed Irish/pale as they come), but when I was younger I couldn't get enough. Plus I've worked outdoors a lot, as I know that you have.

You look like you are blessed w/ good quality skin in general, (it can vary quite a bit on us humans), so the scar should not be overly noticable. Good luck and see you soon, I hope.

Denis,
That's kinda why I posted it so people would be more aware.

If you have a spot that doesn't go away that the skin kinda flakes off on and might even bleed a little, it should be checked.

Be cool, in the shade.

My wife got a small cancer on her nose. They used a proceedure where they shave off a little, check it for cancer, and then shave and check a little more until it's gone. When the operation was done, she had a BB size indention in her nose. Every day she peeled off the scab and re-dressed it which seemed really weird, but when it was all healed you could hardly tell it was there. Luckily she caught it early. If you have new a little brown or black spot that doesn't go away or even gets bigger, get it checked ASAP.

The family is a lot more diligent in sun screen application and hat use.
