Beetle to Kuebelwagen conversion?
Anyone have experience with converting an old Kaefer into a Kuebelwagen?
Father in law and I are looking into this as a beater project. Really like the simplicity and "the look". Probably paint it in "Desert Fox" camo though. ![]()

From what I've seen, it might be much easier to start with another VW that was probably a direct descendant from the Kubelwagen, namely the Thing. They have gotten almost to collector status and aren't that cheap anymore, but it would seem to be an easier conversion.

Think it'd be easier to find an old "THING"

I've seen it done with 181's (Thing)
Using that platform it's fairly simple to just mod the fenders and hood to get the level of 'authenticity' you want. There was a beater Kubel on ebay a few years ago; it had been re-panned with an early 50's bug. Went for ~$5k - shoulda bought it ![]() The last Schwimmwagen I saw for sale was $49k, and it was rough and incomplete.
