Traffic,
15 years old smoking my first joint. Adios Jim! |
I met Jim at a NAMM show and he seemed to be a very nice, down-to-earth kind of guy. I didn't know who he was and when I asked him if he played "professionally", he said "at times" and was very gracious about my ignorance. Sad to hear of his passing...

I had a Marantz stereo with a Garrard turntable and a pair of huge Koss headphones. I would put the headphones on and play the drums along with the music. My mother is a saint for putting up with that noise!!
|
So sad. I think I will bust out my barleycorn CD.
|
I'm listening to Traffic via RealRhapsody right now. Jim was a great drummer, understated and very talented, knowing just where the accents and fills belong.
|
Supposedly he composed most of the band's music. Someone who is more of a trafficphile may know more about his contributions than I do though.

I thought Dave Mason was the writer of most of the songs.. Saw him a few years ago. Great show.

Jim Capaldi was in his own right, an important part of the writing talent in Traffic. He released a solo album in 1983 called "Fierce Heart"; produced by himself & Steve Winwood with some help from Van Morrison. He wrote all tracks save three on which he collaborated with other writers. Don't get me wrong, I've always enjoyed, and periodically still listen to Dave Mason's stuff which reminds me, I should acquire some software soon to digitize all my old vinyl.
Farewell Jim |
